  1. Steve says:

The reductions to the David Bowie boxsets are simply a price match with HMV. Amazon prices increase everytime HMV sells out of the box sets.

    • Paul Sinclair says:

Is that a problem? Exactly why competition is good. International SDE readers get the box set at HMV prices. HMV won’t ship internationally, as you know.

    • David Harold says:

Price is up to £99 on Amazon right now but I got one at HMV for £74.99. Thanks for the tip!

  2. Ordered. My bank balance & limited storage space hate you right now ;-)
& you get all 104 tracks as autoripped mp3s if buying in the UK.

  3. Back up to £99.15 & described as “Back-ordered. Due in stock January 16 — order now to reserve yours” now.

  4. David says:

I didn’t realise the vinyl boxes were limited. I missed the Five Years one by the looks of things. Going for much higher prices now on Ebay. Does anyone know if they are now deleted or are more being pressed?

    • Paul Sinclair says:

Five Years vinyl is long out of print. Expect the other boxes to go the same way eventually.

      • Jonathan says:

By some miracle I got a brand new copy of the Five Years vinyl just a couple of months ago for £190 from HMV.

Aaaaages ago I logged my email address for Five Years on their online store to ‘Notify me when this is back in stock’. I received an email in October telling me it was back in stock so I ordered straight away and it arrived a few days later. They must have literally done a stock check in the warehouse, found one copy in a dusty corner and let me know about it. It came up as sold out straight after that.

Needless to say I have subsequently bought the second two box sets and my wallet is considerably lighter for it. Thanks HMV….

  5. Dean Taylor says:

Thanks Paul.. two down one to go.
Had a £30 gift card burning a hole in my pocket, a perfect way to spend it I think And couldn’t resist after watching Bowie night on bbc4 last night… simply great stuff… as time goes on we will miss this great and true artist more and more I think.

  6. Mike says:

You’re going to make me buy these Bowie sets, aren’t you?

    • Robert Laversuch says:

Please do own all three and they are gloriously well curated and yes Bowie’s stature as God-like genius is well founded. One of a kind.

  7. Gerbrand says:

Can’t help noticing Amazon.de has increases the prices of many boxsets to offset it’s 3-for-2 deal.

  8. Chris Tait says:

Hi Paul. The edit of “Fame” on this set, and the 40th Anniversary picture disc, isn’t the same as the original UK 7″ single. I don’t know if this different edit was released elsewhere.

    • Gerbrand says:

The first box (Five Years) has a couple “fake single versions” on Re:Call 1, in most cases the album version newly edited to match the length of the original (rare) single. I assume they have applied this practice for Re:Call 2 & 3 too.

      • Steve says:

Sorry what’s your evidence for this assertion?

        • Gerbrand says:

Described in “The Complete David Bowie” by Nicholas Pegg. Ragazzo Solo, Ragazza Sola, Changes, Andy Warhol, Drive-In Saturday are all newly fabricated “single versions”.

Same applies for a number of tracks on the Nothing Has Changed compilation: Space Oddity, Diamond Dogs, Fashion, Scary Monsters. All new edits / “fake single versions”.

Hence my assumption they have done similar edits on Re:Call 2&3, which are not yet described in the book (latest edition October 2016).

  9. Colin says:

Happened to notice this a few minutes ago and snapped one up at £74.99 (£0.50 dearer at time of posting – Boo! ).

Love these deal alerts. Keep ‘em coming.

All I need now is the 5 Years box set to come down to a similar price and I’ll have all three sets. Fingers crossed.
