What the hell is the point of adding a ‘Greatest Hits’ to a box set because all the songs will be duplicated on the albums included along with it? DUH!

  2. Lazlo Nibble says:

Can’t speak for this particular one but plenty of “Greatest Hits” albums have non-album material (single mixes, new tracks added to bump sales, etc.).

  3. Steve says:

For a large number of people their introduction to Simon & Garfunkel was that greatest hits album. I for one love listening to that album and the songs in that order. Glad they included it!

  4. Peter says:

Thanks Paul, Awesome value for a remastered catalogue !

  5. Geoff says:

Thought I got a bargain when it was £33 a couple of weeks back.

  6. Francis says:

Might as well include every ‘best of’ in the box set if including one, it is that pointless.

“Might as well include every ‘best of’ in the box set if including one, it is that pointless.”

“Some may wonder why that particular album is here but it’s worthy of inclusion simply for the fact that it contains exclusive mixes of ‘America’ and ‘Bookends Theme’ not found anywhere else”

Taken from a review on Amazon uk, when highlighting the point you’re making.
Also, maybe it was included because of the success of the album. Taken from:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_and_Garfunkel%27s_Greatest_Hits

Simon and Garfunkel’s Greatest Hits peaked on the U.S. albums chart at #5. On the UK Album Chart, it was a #2 hit. The album has proven a long and durable seller, currently being certified for 14 million units sold in the U.S. alone. It is easily their best-selling album in the U.S., and holds the record in the U.S. for the best-selling album by a duo.

In 2003, the album was ranked number 293 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time

I got this a couple of weeks ago. I paid 28 pounds. plus shipping to the colonies. it is a fantastic set with a great booklet too. sadly it doesn’t have the bonus tracks that the older remaster had, but the sound quality is much better.

  8. Going by amazon , this set doesn’t have the bonus tracks from the previous boxes/expanded reissues or the Central Park dvd (from The Collection) but it does have The Graduate soundtrack, Greatest Hits + the live albums. I think there’s a live version of For Emily wherever I may find her thats unique to the Greatest Hits (or at least used to be).

  9. Dave says:

I think there are two live tracks on greatest hits plus a unique mix of cecilia which are all only available on Greatest Hits. Also, for those of us of a certain age, this album, other than later compilations, is kind of in our DNA and it was the biggest seller.

  10. John Norris says:

It looks good value when you break it down into cost per CD. I’ve also read reviews on Amazon which praise the mastering and general sound as being superior previous releases. A few gripes here about ‘bonus tracks’ not being included… come on, it’s £2.50 per disc… what do you want, the moon on a stick?

  11. David says:

And only about 3 of those albums are truly essential. Still a good price though

  12. KevinK says:

It was £30.37 “at the time of writing” – so I make that £2.53 per disc to be precise!

    • Nigel D Day says:

Well I actually picked up this in our local HMV for £30 about a month ago so I’m well pleased :)

Great box though. Well worth having

  13. Martin Postema says:

The other live song on Greatest Hits is Kathy’s Song (originally on the Paul Simon Songbook. And Yes, it’s Kathy on that cover). It’s Paul’s song, Artie never sung it. Paul wrote For Emily whenever I may find her for Artie to counterbalance that and Paul never sung it.

I’m willing to believe that the sound of this box is much better, but I’m not going to buy it, not at any price. And you know why? Because these record companies really stink. I bet in a few years they will release this box with the extra bonus tracks.

  14. Robert Atkin says:

I have just paid £10.99 at my local HMV for this set. I am not sure if this was just local as it was reduced from £22.99 or if it is alsoavailable at other HMV shops at this price.

I have the previous Box-Set comprising of the five albums with extras and the Central Park DVD and paid about £8.50 or £8.99 for that also from HMV.

Two Box-Sets for about £20.00. Such a steal. Amazon have this set priced at £37.00 at the moment.
