kris_actual

We told you about this new Kris Kristofferson albums box back in March, but are pleased to be able to now fill in the blanks with full details around The Complete Monument & Columbia Albums Collection box set…

This is a massive collection of 16 CDs which brings together 11 studio albums, recorded in the years spanning 1970 through to 1981, and an impressive five CDs of rarities, including complete unreleased concert recordings, non-LP singles, studio outtakes, and previously unreleased demos.

In addition to this wealth of music the packaging includes ‘facsimile sleeves’ said to accurate reproduce original album artwork (expectations should be managed as far as this goes) and the box set includes a deluxe booklet featuring essays and liner notes penned especially for this anthology including words by Monument Records founder Fred Foster, American writer Mikal Gilmore and Don Was.

This will be issued on 10 June 2016. In the meantime check out that great Spain pre-order price!

Half the price of the US when I buy from Spain! Gracias!

  2. Bridge says:

Original album artwork? Pretty sure the original covers didn’t have white borders around them, haha.

    • Mychael says:

And I’m pretty sure the originals were much bigger, haha.

But seriously, why complain about the “white borders” (yes I know it’s a running joke on the Hoffman forum…) – these are reissues (!) with a reproduction (!!) of the original cover on the front. That’s all.

  3. Richie says:

    Y Viva España!

I had this ordered from Amazon UK for £65+ but thanks to you Paul I have it for £48 less a few pennies from Amazon Spain. That`s a 30% saving, once again thanks Paul.

  4. Kenny says:

I’d be a bit wary of this set if you’re not fully au fait with Kris’s career. His first album “Kristofferson” is a masterpiece but over the next decade, as his film career took off, the quality of his songwriting fell alarmingly. Some of the stuff he did with Rita Coolidge was just embarrassing. Saw him live in 1971 and he was unbelievably good. Saw him again in 1977, this time with Rita Coolidge, and he was a parody of his former self. I heard his attitude to his “wild” lifestyle changed after “A Star Is Born” and it didn’t improve things.
But having said that, he’s now one of the best live performers around. Who’d have thought that Kris and Willie would be longest surviving Highwaymen.

    • Just sayin' says:

Mentioned the same thing/opinion back in March (though I’d put Silver Tongued Devil in the masterpiece category also.) But it’s still nice to see him get the recognition for a big shebang like this. There’s still defintely isolated moments of greatness all the way through, and I’m betting there will be a few real “new” gems on those last two discs.

  5. Despite owning most of these albums, I will be purchasing this box set. I was wondering when they would offer a complete albums set for Kris.

  6. Frenchy Eric says:

Just got it for 58 euros from Amazon Spain !!!
    Best deal today !
This is Real Country and not todays’ garbage…
Can’t wait listening to it !

  7. Shane says:

Because those white borders are really completely useless and were not on the original sleeves. What is the use? What purpose could they possibly have? They only ruin the look.

  8. Dean says:

I can’t defend the white border, but I’d guess the point is that they “frame” the artwork (AKA: The cover).

The thing is, the cardboard sleeves in these cheap releases are pretty horrid with or without a border. Once you’ve seen (and felt) what the Japanese do, there’s no other way to describe these other than “tat”. In those 5-disc releases the print quality is so low I think they’re one step up from plain white card.

    • Wayne Klein says:

I wouldn’t say they are “horrid”. I have the Cheap Trick, Kansas and other sets and they are decent. Are they as good as the Japanese releases? No but Sony tends to use better quality materials than Rhino.

Let’s keep it into perspective as well–for the price this is a good set for a Japanese version you will be paying twice as much.

    • Wayne Klein says:

The bigger box sets for a Epic generally don’t use the same poor quality as the five CD sets.

  9. Wayne Klein says:

    Are these all remastered?
