Martika / Martika’s Kitchen 2CD deluxe

Martika‘s 1991 album Martika’s Kitchen will be reissued by Cherry Red as a two-CD deluxe edition next month.

The US pop star’s second album is notable for her collaborations with Prince; four tracks in total, including the hit singles Love…Thy Will Be Done and the title track.

The bonus CD on this set (“Side Orders”) features 12 remixes, including an unreleased radio edit of Spirit and two remixes of the same track (House and Hip-Hop Mix) only issued on promotional 12-inch vinyl back in the day.

The label is describing this set as “remastered, repackaged and reheated” and the set comes with a booklet which features an exclusive commentary and track-by-track review by Martika (with ex-Attitude editor Adam Mattera).

This two-CD deluxe edition of Martika’s Kitchen will be released on 26 January 2018.

Right after I got this album they make a deluxe version…dang! lol

  3. ChrisGa says:

Very decent record, not as good as her debut, but the title track and Love…Thy Will Be Done rank as some of Prince’s best nineties work.

  4. Griffin says:

I pre-ordered it way before this post here. I still wish they would have included more of the Martika’s Kitchen promo remixes!

    • Griffin says:

I meant the SINGLE Martika’s Kitchen.

Happy New Year Paul, and keep up the good work hahaha…

      • Griffin says:

I would have purchased if re-released on vinyl.

  6. Unexpected news! I have the two Martika’s albums on cassette, I didn’t imagine I could one day hold a cd of one of them in my hands.

  7. Neil says:

Sorry – my link has gone to the Prince track ‘Love’ instead. Here’s the one to the Martika album: http://www.princevault.com/index.php?title=Album:_Martika%27s_Kitchen

  8. Neil says:

Did Prince/Martika actually meet in the writing/recording of their songs – she said in a recent interview that she sent her diary of lyrics to him and he returned the songs. This article seems to confirm that Prince sent her the demos and then she added her vocals in NYC: http://www.princevault.com/index.php?title=Love…_Thy_Will_Be_Done

Either way, Love… Thy Will Be Done is a great track and the Prince demo is floating around the net in very good quality. Not included for obvious reasons I guess!

The non-Prince tracks are so-so but this is a good release for any Prince fan. I ordered it from Cherry Red direct and not Amazon.

  9. Peter says:

The Prince versions of (some of) these songs exist in pretty good quality and would have been a nice edition! Very interested to hear what Martika has to say about the recording sessions as I understand her mum chaperoned her at Paisley Park

  10. Julian H says:

    “Markita’s Kitchen” Paul? ;-)

  11. Tracey says:

Paul…there seems to be a typo in the headline for this thread.

  12. James Foran says:

I really like this album and I’m glad to see it is getting the deluxe edition treatment. I only wish there’d been unreleased songs on the bonus disc but as there are none I assume she didn’t record anything more than is on the album. Having said that I’ll still buy the bloomin’ thing!

    re: Martika first album
dear Cherry Red, how about a reissue of her debut as a 2CD with all the edits, remixes & bsides? instead of the miserable effort with only 6 bonus tunes…

  14. Sarah Dean says:

Was there ever a PWL remix of Coloured Kisses?

  15. Kauwgompie says:

Yes getting that for sure. Decent album and the Prince penned songs make this a must-have for all Prince fans. Looking forward to it.

  16. unique says:

literally 12 tracks in total on this package that prince is on and the spirit mixes on cd for the first time, so an upgrade over my promo 12″. having the prince vocal versions would be asking way too much though. open book was also part of these sessions but released by jevetta steele. would have been nice to hear a martika version if it existed. the prince version of that and love thy will be done are a couple of his best outtakes. there’s also a track by prince called work that fat using the backing to martika’s kitchen with a pitched down vocal which is interesting but unlikely to be released in a hurry due to it’s non pc lyrics. btw the previously unavailable on cd tracks were actually on the promo cd of martika’s kitchen, but not available officially

  17. David McIntyre says:

Great album, long overdue me thinks. First purchase of 2018 sorted
