Mike Oldfield / “Man On The Rocks” deluxe edition and box set

Mike Oldfield / Man On The Rocks

Mike Oldfield has revealed that in addition to the previously announced CD and double vinyl versions of his forthcoming album Man On The Rocks, a two-CD deluxe edition and a three-CD box set will also be available.

With the release now pushed back until 3 March 2014, fans will need to decide which format to go for. The two-CD edition offers a second disc of instrumental versions of the album’s tracks. The box set includes both discs from the deluxe and adds a third CD of original demosalong with alternate mixes of four of the album’s tracks. In addition this set comes with a 16-page CD size booklet, four art cards and two portraits of Oldfield, as well as a certificate of authenticity.

All versions should be available from the usual retailers (although they are not showing on all Amazon stores at the time of writing), but if you opt for the box set, you will need to purchase direct from Oldfield’s online store, since it’s an exclusive. It’s also worth noting that the music unique to the box set will not be available digitally.

Seems strange that he’s remixing all of his old titles for 5.1 but not doing a 5.1 mix for the new album. But I shouldn’t complain. I’m just psyched to have something new from Mike!

  2. Phil says:

    Fascinating Captain . . .
2 disc version is not listed on Universal UK marketing portal or retail website . . but what’s new . . .

  3. Metal Mickey says:

Is there something about the sleeve design I’m not getting? For some reason it feels to me like it’s supposed to look like something else, but I can’t make it out (though I can just about see the person napping in the corner)… or I just saw too many Hipgnosis album covers in my youth! :)

    Thanks for the information.
Once again, I’ll be prudent with what Universal claims as ”exclusive to their webstore”. It happened several time (”exclusive” signed Hergest Ridge and Ommadawn which were available through Amazon UK, ”exclusive” coloured Platinum and QE2 LP’s which were available through What Records).
I’ve read somewhere (Official Oldfield Facebook page, I think…) that the Box set is not exclusive to Universal Store, but only the certificate of authenticity which comes with it.
    Anyway, can’t wait !! ;)

  5. Q. says:

No 5.1 mix, Mike you can keep it!

  6. Zongadude says:

The 3-CD Boxset edition IS also available in regular record stores. It is not exclusive to Mike’s website after all. I bought my copy today.

  7. Clive Metcalfe says:

A superb album. Would have been nice if released on SACD 5.1 or Pure Audio Blu Ray 5.1. That extra dimension would have been the icing on the cake.
