Miles Davis / The Complete Prestige: 10-Inch LP Collection / vinyl box set

Prestige Records (a division of Concord Bicycle Music) will release Miles Davis: The Complete Prestige 10-Inch LP Collection, an 11LP box set in May.

Issued to celebrate what would have been Davis’ 90th birthday, this new collection presents all ten 10-inch LPs on which Miles Davis appeared as a young leader for Prestige Records, during the 10-inch LP era, from 1951 to 1954.

This set actually consists of eleven records, since it includes a bonus LP featuring Davis as a guest artist with Lee Konitz, accurately reproduced on 10-inch vinyl, with the original LP cover artwork and liner notes included.

The complete list of albums includes: Modern Jazz Trumpets (featuring Dizzy Gillespie, Kenny Dorham and Fats Navarro); The New Sounds; Blue Period; Miles Plays the Compositions of Al Cohn; Miles Davis Quartet; Miles Davis All Star Sextet; Miles Davis Quintet; Miles Davis with Sonny Rollins; Miles Davis All Stars, Vol. 1Miles Davis All Stars, Vol. 2 and Lee Konitz’s The New Sounds.

This comes with a 16-page booklet featuring rare photographs and new notes by author Ashley Kahn, as well as a print of a painting by Miles.

Miles Davis: The Complete Prestige 10-Inch LP Collection will be released on 13 May 2016.

  1. Ben in Colorado says:

Huge Miles fan. I was way into collecting all the Columbia multi-disc CD sets. Beautiful things….I haven’t gotten into the vinyl craze, but this might push me into it. The artists roster on this collection is staggering!

  2. Andrew Mogford says:

Was thinking of ordering this for my partner if the price is right. But the UK order links doesn’t work :(

  3. Astral says:

So basically, Prestige didn’t sell enough of those 5 x 10″ boxsets they put out for record store day in the past 3 years and decided to repackage them into a single set with a bonus disk?

  4. Brian says:

Wow, this came out of nowhere. I own the original mega-reissue on both vinyl and CD of Miles’ complete Prestige sessions, and I got both Vols. 1 and 2 of the Black Friday and Record Store Day reissues of these sessions (each has five of the original 10″ issues, so everything in the new release except the Lee Konitz stuff). This pending release is pushing it and would be a quadruple-dip for me (and likewise for some other fanatics). However, I have to say… that I will probably end up buying this one, too. It just looks so damn cool.

After all, Miles is Miles is Miles!

  5. Rock Roll says:

I would probably buy it for about $100. (another set I don’t need)

  6. Matt says:

While ok on the surface it’s just a reissue of the two Prestige 10″ boxes done for a couple RSDs last year. Those were $70-$80 list if I remember correctly so for and extra $40 – $60 you get a Lee Konitz 10″ (of which Miles is only on 4 of the 6 tracks and is all available on “Conception”) and a 16 page book along with less classy art on the box (not that it’s bad per se but the other boxes are much nicer). Hopefully they issue the Konitz 10″ separately (doubt it) for those that already bought the other boxes.
