Influential dance duo reissue their debut album

Electronic music duo Orbital are to reissue their self-titled 1991 debut album, known to fans as ‘The Green Album’, in April this year, newly remastered and overseen by band members, Phil and Paul Hartnoll.

Originally released in September 1991, the highly influential record contains tracks including breakthrough 1990 single ‘Chime’, and ‘Belfast.’

For their debut, unlike some of their contemporaries in the rave scene, Orbital wanted to explore wider musical textures and different rhythms. “Our heroes were always Kraftwerk, Cabaret Voltaire, the Severed Heads – people who made proper, satisfying, full albums,” said Paul Hartnoll, adding, “and we were like, yeah, that’s what we want to do.”

The reissue package also includes early Orbital songs like ‘Satan’ plus previously unavailable tracks. Formats include a 4LP box set, 4CD set (both include a 60-page hardcover book), black and coloured 2LP editions, and a 2CD and cassette. The official Orbital shop carries all of that stock and offers an exclusive signed print with all box set orders, while stocks last.

Orbital will also be releasing a series of ‘Orbital LEDs’ (which stands for ‘Limited Edition Drops’). These will be fully remastered versions of the duo’s original 12-inch EP series, with brand new artwork. Fans will be told about these extremely limited releases on the day of release.

The group will hit the road again in March for shows that see them perform their first two albums in their entirety. The ‘Green + Brown Album Tour’ starts in New York in March and the UK leg kicks off at The Great Hall in Exeter on 24 April.

Orbital – aka ‘The Green Album’ – will be released on 19 April 2024 via London Records.
