Rory Gallagher remembered on new blues collection

New CD and LP sets feature host of unreleased material

Irish guitar ace Rory Gallagher is remembered next month with a new collection entitled Blues.

Celebrating what would have been 50 years since he begun his solo career, Blues collects together rare and unreleased recordings of Rory playing his favourite blues material from his vaults.

This is the first collection to be put together by the estate since Universal reissued his solo catalogue in a massive campaign last year. Ranging from never heard before tracks to special guest sessions, alongside lost radio sessions, this album uncovers Rory’s love of the blues throughout his solo career from 1971 right through to 1994.

Formats include a 16 track edition pressed on single CD / 2LP version and a deluxe 36-track three-CD set. The deluxe is comprised of 90 percent unreleased material and features performances with the likes of Muddy Waters, Albert King, Jack Bruce, Lonnie Donegan and Chris Barber. It also comes with an extensive booklet comprising previously unseen pictures plus an essay by award winning writer Jas Obrecht.

Blues is released 31 May 2019

  1. horslips says:

That version of “Pistol Slapper Blues” from RTE Television in 1976 is what turned me onto a life-long love of Rory’s music. Surprised it did not make the 1 CD or LP versions.

  2. Freddy Delattre says:

Très content de cette nouvelle sortie un très beau setlist

  3. Francesco says:

At last, something new for Rory fans to celebrate and look forward to. This set looks really interesting. Personally I’d like to see more complete live shows being released but this will do in the meantime!

  4. paul wren says:

A very cheap blue vinyl option is available from The Sound Of Vinyl at £24, black vinyl option at £22 – plus postage of course:

Fantastic news regarding this ace guitarist and stellar live performer. Brilliant alert from Paul S. An easy vinyl buy decision for me!

  6. Bryan Young says:

Both taste and solo concerts at Redcar jazz club
    Favourite gigs of early 70s

  7. Colin H says:

Am I alone in thinking calling a Rory Gallagher album ‘Blues’ is similar to calling an album by the Pope ‘Catholic’?

  8. Nick Love says:

A live track with Rory and Jack Bruce? Talk about a dream pairing.

    • Jarmo Keranen says:

Rory’s 3 dvd boxset The Complete Rockpalast Collection have three tracks with Jack Bruce. Born Under A Bad Sign, Politician and I’m Ready. The collection says they were recorded in 1990. Here they say it was 1991. I already have about 15 of Rory’s cd’s and Rockpalast and Mountreux dvd collections. I’m gonna buy the 3 cd deluxe set.

  9. Michael Leek says:

Great thanks Paul – saw Rory many times in Leeds as a kid.
He always drank at the bar with fans – great guy.

  10. Bill Robinson says:

Is Amazon in Canada going to carry the 3 CD set ?
