rushr40

Eagle Rock are celebrating 40 years since Rush‘s eponymous debut with R40, an extensive collector’s box set on Blu-ray (and DVD).

R40 brings together Rush live performances from each decade of their career and spans six blu-ray discs or 10 DVDs, depending on which format you choose. It includes Rush In Rio, R30, Snakes & Arrows Live, Time Machine 2011: Live In Cleveland and Clockwork Angels Tour plus a bonus disc of previously unseen live material stretching from 1974 to 2013.

The blu-ray set is packaged in a 56-page hardback book (305mm x 225mm) which documents four decades of Rush live in concert with appropriate photos and pictures of memorabilia.

R40 is released on 17 November 2014

  1. Hans Jörg says:

Any news if the bonus disc will also be available separately? I have all of the above on blu ray except rio only on three cds.

  2. Simon Long says:

What an utter rip-off. Everything but Rush In Rio and the bonuses is already released on Bluray. The version of R30 included on the Bluray version of the set still doesn’t include the bonus features from the DVD version. Rush In Rio was shot on low quality cameras, which is why the original DVD was in non-anamorphic format; they didn’t have the quality to support anamorphic SD, so HD is going to look dreadful – no point releasing that on Bluray anyway. So the only thing that it’s worth getting the set for is the bonus disc – £100+ for that? Someone is having a laugh at the fans’ expense. I’d like to get the version of Lock and Key from the bonus disc, which was on the Laserdisc release of A Show Of Hands but not the VHS or DVD, but not at that price. What a shame.

  3. Roberto Bessa says:

My suggestion for Rush would be to release each blu-ray separately and as a box set, get the guy that fixed Vapor Trails to fix the sound issues, and add more songs to the Molson set.

  4. Carl Noonan says:

Does anyone know if the US bluray’s will play in the UK, ie are they region free ? I ask because the US version is cheaper than the UK one.

  5. steve says:

Are the prices typos???? Surely not…..is the blu ray region free btw??

  6. Chris.L. says:

Complete rip-off!! Basically, Rush fans will be paying £90+ for the bonus disc and (probably) nice packaging!! As Mr.Long mentioned, the Rio blu will be a waste of time because the source material is of low quality to begin with. Having said that, wouldn’t it have made more sense to release a box set featuring the 3 shows from the Replay box set + Rio, on blu + bonus disc? At least, doing that, the fans won’t be forking out a premium price for a lot of stuff that they already have. I’ve pre-ordered, purely because they’re my fave band (and I want that bonus disc), but I’ll be keeping everything crossed that there’ll be a sizeable price drop. I’d guess that, if the bonus disc is released separately, it won’t be for a while. If that happens, I’d encourage fans to send LOTS of hate mail the the bands management office in Toronto!!

Folks, do remember, there is more to a Blu-Ray than HD video. In the case of ‘Rush in Rio’, we would hopefully get high resolution, lossless 2.0 and 5.1 soundtracks. I have no problems with SD video on a Blu-Ray with high-res soundtracks. The latest Ian Anderson release is that way as are archive releases from Dio and Dire Straits to name a few.

    • Simon Long says:

Do you really think Rush In Rio would sound any better with high-res audio, given the circumstances under which it was recorded and filmed? It doesn’t sound great on the current CD and DVD releases; that’s not because it’s not HD, it’s because it was recorded and filmed with mediocre equipment under difficult circumstances. I’d be amazed if an HD audio version sounded any better than the current CD and DVD.

  8. Peter Wolf says:

Simon i am with you completely, i have all the Rush concerts on bluray and one of them on dvd, and once again they expect me to go out and buy
the same once again, this seems to happen on a regular basis. All in all bonus bd number 6 would be of some interest but as Alex would say during the Hall Of Fame Induction if i remember correctly blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, i am not sure how many times that was actually said but that’s how i feel towards the box set.

  9. Mic Smith says:

Love Rush. But not paying £100 for a bonus disc. I only have a couple of these shows on BluRay and the rest on DVD. While I’d love to upgrade I have to ask myself how often do I play these things? Certainly not often enough to justify the spend. R40 is certainly an anniversary to forget.

  10. Alejandro says:

That version with the extra DVD is also available from BestBuy
