Suede / Dog Man Star 20: trailer

Dog Man Star is easily one of the best albums of the 1990s, and for this writer it surpassed anything that Blur came up with and eclipsed both of the first two celebrated Oasis records between which its release was sandwiched. In fact I’ve just remembered that I reviewed the album when the 2011 deluxe edition came out so head over here, for the full considered verdict.

Although it has only been three years since the last reissue (perhaps, in hindsight, a premature ejaculation of bonus material), I’m still looking forward to this new set even if I only really expect to be offered a ‘carrier bag’ while at the checkout in Tesco.

The Dog Man Star super deluxe collector’s box will be released on 20 October 2014.

While the blu-ray audio and the books are an attractive proposition, the cassette is absolutely useless, and at the current price, no matter how much I love Suede I’m going to have to pass. I hope the blu-ray is released later as a stand alone disc.

Much as I like Suede (not as much as I like Blur incidentally) I can’t help feeling that they are really milking thier back catalogue for all it’s worth at the moment.
    Recently we have had:
    – Deluxe reissues of their entire catalogue
    – Singles box
    – Vinyl album box
    – CD albums box
    And now this.
I wonder what else is in waiting in the wings.

Having said that I’m sure that this is a great release for those that love this album (I’m probably a Suede lightweight – I prefer Coming Up :-).

I am having a hard time with people not realizing that the cassette is simply trying to trigger nostalgia and that is all. Perhaps you had the cassette back then.mits designed to conjure up memories from 1994.
It’s not at all designed to be a listening source. How do people not get this? I understand that this is expensive and that’s a deterrent. But pretending the content isn’t good to help you feel better about not buying it is goofy. I personally think DMS deserves this treatment!

  4. Piotr says:

No matter what anyone thinks the cassette is supposed to conjure, it is still useless and that is a FACT! I’m certainly not using it as an excuse not to buy the box. I would love to buy the box, but then again every week there is a box I would love to buy, and I’m not fortunate enough to be made of money. £50 – £70 pounds for this would seem reasonable. £100 is not. For £100 I would need to see some more stuff in there.
If the blu-ray comes out as a stand alone release some time down the track, and the price is say £20, it would make the box seem like a rip off.

I agree with Trash here, hopefully it is Coming Up, deluxe box… The best Suede long player.

  6. Renato says:

So they decided to release a super deluxe edition that in fact excludes some tracks from the previous delxe edition and add absolutely nothing of interest? Not exactly what I’d call a smart move…
