Tabu confirm box set tracklisting

tabubox

A year after it was first announced, the Tabu box set will finally be released on 10 March 2014.

This is now a seven-disc set (6CD+DVD), or eight if you count the bonus seven-inch single, and features 93 tracks, some of which are on CD for the first time all “extensively re-mastered”.

The DVD contains 15 official Tabu videos and some interviews with Tabu Records founder Clarence Avant, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The vinyl single features (Ms) Sharon Ridley’s Changin’ backed with Manfredo Fest’s Jungle Kitten.

The box comes with a 60-page booklet with notes by Soul expert Ralph Tee, and plenty of photos and an extensive Tabu Records discography.

At the time of writing this is £48 on amazon, a price which compares favourably with Demon’s £60 five-disc Belinda Carlisle Anthology, for instance. Of course, if you were canny enough to place an Amazon pre-order in June last year when this was first listed, you’d have secured your copy for just £24.99.

The Tabu Records Box Set is released on 10 March 2014.

  1. Bert says:

Just checked and yes, I did pre-order it back then for that low price. Really looking forward to this.

  2. Michel says:

I was also an earlybird, ordered it on June 8 for £25,20 ! Also at the same time the The Tabu Anthology by The S.O.S. Band (£17.15 NOW £29.99) and The Tabu Anthology by Alexander O’Neal (£15.13 now 26.99)

  3. Eric says:

Would buy this in an instant, if I could be sure there was no sign of the dreaded V word…….so I’ll have to wait for reviews to come in first, as with all the others.

  4. Alan says:

Glad I got this pre=ordered for £24.99 and the SOS Band at £17.99 last June. With the track list about the wait is nearly over

  5. Simon says:

All looking good and I’m glad I ordered early too. Personally would have preferred a greater selection of videos – seems a rather arbitrary choice – than a 7″ single I’ll never play.

  6. Ian Dewhirst says:

    Hi Simon,

These were all the official videos for Tabu Records and we used the lot of them so it wasn’t really an arbitrary choice but rather the only choice.

The original Sharon Ridley 7″ is quite rare and highly collectible and was the closing anthem @ Paradise Garage so it was almost a no-brainer to select that coupled with the also rare and collectible 7″ mix of Manfredo Fest’s “Jungle Kitten” which is also hard-to-find and in demand, so it’s difficult to figure out what better 2 Tabu tracks we could have chosen for the bonus 7″. Best, Ian D

  7. ALAN COSTA says:

At last my box is on the the way from Amazon. I am hoping the wait from last June pre-order is worth it.

  8. Michael Pendlebury says:

Really looking forward to this arriving. I held out on a few of the Tabu rereleases wanting to hear whether I’d be into the artist first (such as Brainstorm) – figured this would be a great way to do it! Looking forward to the SOS Band box set too…

  9. James Reeno says:

    Very interesting boxed set here.

I only hope the mastering was ALL from original tapes, and no brickwalling was used.

Also–it would have been nice to have at least 2 cd’s dedicated to JUST the extended 12″ mixes along with their inst/dub mixes. A lot of the Jam & Lewis produced 12″ material was very adventurous, especially the dubs.
Why is the 12″ mix of “When I look in your eyes” not included? And at least the 12″ mix of “Just be good to me?”
