The Doors / Light My Fire 50th anniversary limited seven-inch vinyl

In July, Rhino will celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Doors Light My Fire, by issuing a limited edition replica of the Japanese version of the 1967 seven-inch single.

This replica vinyl will use the original Japanese artwork (which was unique) and will feature the single edit of Light My Fire on the A-side and the album version of The Crystal Ship on the B-side.

The single was originally issued in May 1967 in the USA and was the second 45 from the band’s eponymous debut. It reached number one on 29 July.

This new limited edition vinyl single will be limited to just 7,500 copies. It will be released on 28 July 2017.

    BAZINGA!

  4. David M says:

11 quid for 2 songs available for 50 years? Wow. I pity people who feel the need to pick this up.

  5. Howie says:

Wow, what a pointless release. Up there with the Stones Satisfaction 12″.

  6. Andrew Meklin says:

It looks that the Doors’ management thinks that fans = idiots…
    Not so…
BTW, we never asked for pins…

I own Chuck Berry’s “The Complete Studio Recordings +, The Guitar Case Edition”. It was released in 2014 to commemorating Chuck Berry’s 88th birthday. It’s a REAL limited edition. Only 88 was made. Number of my case is 13!

Jaff Jampol is a pissant in comparison to Danny Sugerman. Unfortunately, this asshat is the founder and head of JAM Inc., which manages The Doors, Ramones, Jefferson Airplane, and the Estates of Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, Muddy Waters and Rick James, and consults the Estates of Michael Jackson, Henry Mancini, and Peter Tosh.
Get a true fan to run the show, not a suit.

  9. Geoff D says:

Yet another attempt by Jampol to sell fans of The Doors something they already own. What a waste of time.

Cute cover though. Four 6 year old girls find their mother’s make-up box for the first time.

Most of the comments miss the point on this wonderful release- it is not about having two tracks that have been available for many years but about the complete packaging that comes along with it- that is the case in a lot of RSD releases. It also has nothing to do with the Doors management but the record company sees an opportunity for fans to get a piece os history- these releases ( which also include The Who as well as other artists) are a must for physical collectors as they often have a picture jacket, notes and lyrics that were never released in the west. Some of these releases are incredibly expensive (US$3000+) for the original release so this is a chance at a modest amount to own a piece of history. Now isn’t that what collectors are about??

“Now isn’t that what collectors are about??”

Maybe. The original release might be a piece of history but this is just as cash-in replica. But assuming there are at least 7,500 other people who share your POV, this will sell out. Personally, I’ve always preferred listening to music rather than collecting it.

  12. El Nino says:

This ain’t ringing my bells and I’m a big Doors fan.

  13. John Moore says:

Yes this will sell out! That can be seen by the confidence of the record label in announcing the print run of 7,500- this has been well promoted via the Doors official site and various music blogs around the world. Fans of SDE are not simply tuning in listen to music but to find out what fab collectibles are coming next from their favorite artists. This is a typical example of the collectibles that are highly desirable by fans . The success of RSD which is not a listening event but a record collecting frenzy day has ignited the joy of collecting for fans around the world. So don’t see this as cash-in but a cool opportunity to own something that is truly special!
