moodyblues_polydoryeras

November sees the release of this nine-disc Moody Blues box set that brings together, for the first time, remastered editions of all the band’s Polydor-era albums, spanning the period 1986 to 1992.

The six CDs and two DVD package includes 17 bonus tracks (11 are previously unreleased) and a concert recording from July 1986 (from Cleveland, Ohio) which has also never before been issued. The September 1992 Red Rocks concert with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra is also featured, fully remastered.

The DVDs contain the newly remastered and long unavailable Night at Red Rocks concert plus the fan club-only documentary The Other Side of Red Rocks.

A 64-page hardbound book is included along with a seven-inch blue vinyl single of Al Fin Voy A Encontrate, which for the non cunning linguists amongst us is the rare Spanish version of I Know You’re Out There Somewhere

The Polydor Years 1986-1992 is released on 24 November 2014.

  1. Philip Cohen says:

Also being released in the UK on the same day (from the “Esoteric” label): a 2-CD “50th Anniversary Edition” of the group’s debut album “Magnificent Moodies” featuring an entire disc of unreleased songs & versions. This early line-up featured singer/guitarist Denny Laine, Keyboardist/vocalist Mike Pinder, Flutist/vocalist Ray Thomas, bassist/vocalist Clint Warwick & drummer Graeme Edge. This will be packaged in a 2-CD “clamshell” box with a poster & 3 souvenir postcards. Disc Two will include all the surviving 1965 BBC sessions, the unreleased songs & versions from the “Magnificent Moodies” album sessions, and Denny Cordell-produced 1966 recordings intended for the group’s never-released second album(newly mixed from original 4-track tapes). No less than 2 alternate takes of the early Moody Blues signature song “Go Now” are included. One version predates the recording of the hit, and the other one was an attempted re-make. Hopefully, both versions are less distorted than the hit version!!

There will also be a 1-CD edition with only the “Disc One” material(the released album, plus all non-L.P. singles & E.P. tracks). Let’s hope that the release doesn’t go through the postponements that are increasingly typical for “Esoteric” label CD’s.

What yet another box set, i think Endless Flight was an excellent compilation, i will definitely give this one a miss

  3. Francesco Cavaliere says:

Not worth it considering how much of it most of us will already have. True, the live disc would be nice but the expanded albums will probably get stand-alone releases later anyway. Not as if this was their best period either, let’s be honest.

  4. Eric says:

I’d be up for standalone expanded reissues of the studio albums from this period. The Other Side Of Life isn’t easy to find these days.

  5. Philip Cohen says:

It’s hard to believe, that the sessions for the albums from “Octave” onwards didn’t generate even one demo, alternate mix, alternate take or unreleased song. Why is the group so restrictive with vault material?

  6. Tim says:

Definitely more interested in the Magnificent Moodies reissue – with 43 bonus tracks!!

Is there are a reason that the Spanish version of “Nights In White Satin” which appeared on the B-side of the 1988 “Al Fin Voy A Encontrate” single isn’t included? I know the song is from a different era, but so are the two 1989 “Greatest Hits” tracks!

Also “This Is The Moment” and “What Child Is This”?
