Tyrannosaurus Rex / deluxe editions

Universal Music will reissues three Tyrannosaurus Rex albums at the end of January as expansive double-CD sets, all newly remastered.

My People Were Fair And Had Sky In Their Hair But Now They’re Content to Wear Stars On Their Brows (1968), Prophets, Seers & Sages: The Angels of the Ages (1968) and Unicorn (1969) are the albums in question (A Beard of Stars was reissued back in March).

The new edition of the debut features both stereo and mono versions of the album, unreleased live tracks from John Peel’s ‘Top Gear’ radio show as well as a bunch of Tony Visconti home demos, five of which are previously unreleased. Visconti and Sean Magee have handled the 2014 remastering.

The deluxe Prophets, Seers & Sages: Angels of the Ages contains a mono 2014 remaster, more songs for ‘Top Gear’ programme and an enormous amount of alternate takes of the album’s songs including 23 previously unreleased.

1969’s Unicorn was the penultimate Tyrannosaurus Rex album and the last to feature Steve Peregrin Took. Again, this 2015 edition features a new mono 2014 remaster and a plethora of bonus material, including 17 previously unreleased alternates.

All three two-CD deluxe sets are released on 26 January 2015 come packaged as digipacks with new Mark Paytress essays in the booklets. Two-LP vinyl editions are also available.

Thank you for the heads up Mr Sinclair.

  3. Brice says:

Great news but we already have all BBC tracks in the Box and on the last expanded previous issues we already have all these Bonus tracks except when for exemple, for one song, it was take 1 and now on the Deluxe edition is take 2 ! So next year, we’ll have a new issue with take 3 of the same song ! So we must buy again the disc and we must keep the last issues because differents takes !!! So I don’t know if I buy again…..It will be better to have now remastered Deluxe version of Futuristic Dragon, Dandy in the Underworld, Zip Gun,….

    • Catweazle says:

Well, it’s all a matter of taste, isn’t it? I’d rather buy new editions of all the Tyrannosaurus Rex every year than anything after Zinc Alloy …

    • Gary says:

You donät have to buy it again though do you? Don’t fall for it. I know it’s hard but just be happy with the fact that you already own said record and spend that money on something you don’t already own. No one is going to think you’re any less of a Tyrannosaurus Rex fan if they spot that you only own five versions of each album instead of six are they?

For any T.Rex fans reading this, there have the T.Rex / Beard of Stars deluxe editions for £6 CD £8 double vinyl and the BBC box set for £20 at…

    http://greatofferstore.com/

I have never used them before but seem to have some great offers.

    • Francis says:

The Great Offers Store do not seem to have anything in stock and their communication is terrible! I ordered the Lana Del Ray Boxset from them 3 weeks ago and they keep informing me, when they bother to email, that they do not have it available and they need to get it from their supplier, despite their website stating despatched within 3-10 days!

      • Tony Dagnall says:

Great Offers Store’s product is remarkably similar in content and price reduction to that offered on sale from Record Store dot co dot UK, in fact it’s almost identical. Make of that what you will.

    • Francis says:

The Great Offers Store IS NOT SO GREAT, despite the name!

  6. Mychael says:

One can only hope that the design is better than the previous (so-called “deluxe”) editions of “Beard Of Stars” and “T.Rex” – they were full of typos, “forgotten” credits and bad photo reproductions. Those one-disc remasters were ace though.

    • Matt says:

Are you, perhaps, referring to the “one disc remasters” that were labeled as the “expanded editions?” I just bought A Beard of Stars, expanded edition, that was released in 2004, by A&M Universal for Straight Ahead productions. The single disc has a total of 30 tracks (15 bonus tracks) and is digitally remastered. It sounds too thin (this 2004 Ed release digitally remastered version) compared to the original cd release. I wonder if the delux editions (2cd) releases are remastered better? Anyone???
Anyone??? I have the original cd releases of unicorn, BOS, and T.Rex, and am wondering which reissues have the best sound quality. I’m a bit wary now after listening to the thin digital remastering of the 2004 expanded edition that says it was digitally remastered by Gary Moore. And what I mean by “too thin” is that it seems that it’s all high end, treble, that got pushed up, and the rounder, thicker, heavier, deeper Na’s end was left out …. But I agree that the insets and info and pics is excellent

      • Matt says:

Not “Na’s end,” … Bass end is what I meant. Anyone else notice anything like this? I like the fact that this article mentions that Tony Visconti will had a hand in the remastering of this new deluxe edition of the debut. I wish he had on the BOS 2004 expanded edition

  8. Philip Cohen says:

But, for someone like me, who had never bought these early acoustic albums before(though I have all of his later electric “T.Rex” albums), these new releases might be a good purchase.

  9. Brice says:

Sure Philip, if you haven’t previous editions, you must have these ones !

  10. Dave T says:

On Amazon.Com, these pre-release items are listed for $41.99, while at Amacon.Co.UK, they’re only 14.99 pounds (about $22). Also, when I ordered them, the price dropped to only 12.49 pounds (about $20). I’m not sure why – the list price still shows at 14.99 pounds, but they only charged me 12.49 for each of the 2-CD sets. I like it!

So I think Amazon.Co.UK is the way to go on these. Not sure why Amazon.Com has them at more than double the price right now.

  11. Catweazle says:

Has it been mentioned that there’s also three related limited edition 7″ singles – very much like the ones accompanying the recent BOS/T.Rex releases?
