FIRST PICTURES: Paul Young / Tomb of Memories: The CBS Years

angle

As revealed last month I’ve compiled Tomb of Memories: The CBS Years 1982-1994, a forthcoming four-CD Paul Young collection being released by Sony Music. Although it’s not out for nearly a month, SDE can bring you FIRST PICTURES of this set!

As the title suggests, this is a full overview of Paul’s successful CBS-era and includes many previously unreleased versions of album tracks and hit singles as well as new-to-CD mixes of familiar songs such as Come Back And Stay and Love of the Common People.

The 66-track collection comes in a really smart ‘bookset’, which includes a foreword by Paul Young himself, and some great notes by Daryl Easlea. The music has been newly remastered from the original tapes by Tim Debney at Fluid Mastering.

Tomb of Memories: The CBS Years 1982-1994 will be released on 21 August 2015. You can read more details here.

Paul – You’ve done us proud once again. Thanks for leading the charge on this – and setting up such a terrific retrospective on an equally terrific artist. Looking forward to my copy (already ordered the signed edition!)

Does anyone else remember a Christmas Remix of Love of the Common People? I remember a version with sleighbell overdubs and other variations that was played a lot on Radio 1 around Xmas ’83. Am I going mad..? The search engines think I am…

  6. Eric says:

Hopefully this will sell well and become the template for future anthologies…a perfect mix of value-for-money, some rarities, all the single versions, some remixes and (despite the design style inside) all bound up in a neat hardcover book package!

  7. John Rock says:

Looks Fabulious Love me some PY in a box :)

  8. Terence Delaney says:

Looks good, i got the remixes double cd with the obi, are all the mixes of singles & lyrics on this? and Why Does A Man Have To Be Strong (Alternate Mix) is that the same as video promo mix? thanks

    • Paul Sinclair says:

No lyrics I’m afraid. YES it’s that version of Why Does A Man Have To Be Strong. It was on the single master by the way even though it was never released at the time!

      • Marcus says:

This “video” mix of Why Does A Man Have To Be Strong? is on the 7″ + 12″ Singles (well on mine anyway), but this is the first time on CD.

  9. Don S says:

  12. fettdog says:

I have to honest, I never really got into Paul Young, but he’s always been one of those artists that I’ve enjoyed hearing when he crops up on the radio, so I may have to delve a little deeper now. :-)

As ever, though, very impressed with the love and detail you’ve obviously put into this set, Paul.

  13. Grant says:

Fantastic looking – and no doubt sounding – box set. Great thought and effort and attention to detail put into this for the fans, cant wait to receive it.

Keep these sort of box sets coming Paul, we all appreciate them! You put them together, and we’ll buy them!! Well done, and thank you.

  14. Cal says:

Looks good, thanks for your involvement

  15. Pal says:

Looks great but I don’t buy CDs anymore. High-res formats or vinyl for me. SONY – shame on you for inventing the super audio cd and then abandoning it.

  16. Larry Davis says:

Looks nice…’bout time there’s a Paul Young box…I had 2 single disc anthologies before, as that’s all there was, until the 2CD Music Deluxe one, which was nice…but this looks better…and it’s def a good price too, so I’ll be buying…

  17. Paul Chapman says:

This will be a day one purchase for me & knowing what a amazing job was done with Tears For Fears & the Paul Young 2CD, sure it will be incredible!

    • Paul Sinclair says:

Thanks Paul! Slightly nervous, but excited, about reading the feedback at the end of this week…
