Those look fantastic. I’m now inclined to go buy more of them than I’d planned.

  2. Marko says:

Awful package. Discs have probably some scratches or glue right from the start. Also, I am not buying book & don’t like these book-ish look. Prefer jewel cases, because of better disc protection.

  3. Melvin says:

Wow, these books look stunning. Looks like lovely reissues and I’m tempted to buy the Alexander O’Neal and SOS Band discs.

Believe me,the covers mark easily, the ‘Aladdin Sane’ double disc reissue was packaged like these, and the discs are fiddly to remove…at least the SOS Band albums are being given a proper reissue this time, with the bonus tracks…..though as stated before, these reissues are missing certain tracks …where’s the ‘Will You Satisfy’ remixes by Cherrelle for instance?

  5. Mike says:

Agreed hate the pocket for cd’s – my deacon blue ones were scratched. Why anyone in their right mind thinks they are acceptable is beyond me..

    • Marko says:

Same problem with Deacon Blue reissue. Every single disc is completely scratched. On some disc (especially DVD) is problem with glue. Edsel send me another disc for free when i wrote them about this problem. Maybe in the future nylon will solve this problem & protect disc properly, but i rather prefer jewel cases. I always hate digipacks & casebound books.

  6. Marko says:

Anyway, except packaging this is really great reissue. Especially all S.O.S. Band albums & Alexander O’Neal first two albums. Next year will be release of all S.O.S. Band albums in one box (different package – hope will be better than this one casebound book edition).

  7. Eric says:

Much as I love the aesthetics of these casebound books, I have to agree with Marko. My personal experience of them in the past has not been good, and it would have been fine to have them in hinged 2CD jewelcases. I’d have been happier to buy them in that format, simply because it’s less hassle finding undamaged copies.

  8. Simon says:

I have several Hip-O releases in book format and have been lucky enough not to experience the same problems as correspondents above.

My big concern here is whether there really is the market to sustain this format of release across all Tabu products. How many UK buyers will buy the Kathy Mathis and Rhonda Clark albums, and how many people will wait and then buy the Alexander O’Neal and SOS Band boxes? I’m worried that poor sales will see this project pulled up short.

  9. Richward says:

I was looking forward to the Alexander O’Neal reissues, but I loathe, loathe, loathe the pockets for the discs. Far too easy to scratch, often discs already scratched when you remove them. What’s wrong with a plastic tray?

  10. Eric says:

I’d have bought the entire series, if they’d been in jewelcases. Even the stuff I’m not familiar with. Now I sadly won’t.

Turns out most if not all the bonus material on each release are bloody vinyl rips!!!! What a joke.

  13. I’m Bob (Professor RJ) Ross, a founding member of Brainstorm. That’s me with the red scarf on the back cover of the “Stormin'” album. Christian sent me a copy in the mail. I don’t know what everyone is talking about. I think the package looks fabulous. You did a great job, and I’m honored to be a part of your historic reissue. ProfessorRJRoss.com

  14. Eric says:

Hi Bob, at present (in the UK) we’ve only had the first of the Alex, Cherrelle and SOS Band titles, and all are blighted by vinyl-sourced rips (aka needle drops) – check the reviews on amazon.co.uk – so the Brainstorm titles haven’t gone public yet. It would be great if some of the series had properly-sourced masters; I guess time will tell how many do.

  15. James Reeno says:

No thanks…don’t like books. Jewel cases can be replaced in years to come..these cannot!

Also–The mastering on the original Tabu cd’s is superior. Little or no brick walling, and done from the original master tapes when they were fresh.
