FRANCE: R.E.M. / Automatic for the People 3CD+blu-ray box – €45

UK: Slade / When Slade Rocked The World £92

UK: Paul McCartney / Pure McCartney £42

With the 4CD version currently £58 in the UK this is a snip for the lavish 4LP vinyl box of Paul McCartney‘s rather good 2016 compilation. Although these are in the US you can buy from Amazon UK thanks to their ‘global stores’ initiative. If you are in Australia, you’ll need to use the US link directly.

UK: Kate Bush /  Remastered Part 1 7CD box – £43

Cheapest price to date in the UK for this box that covers all studio albums from 1978’s The Kick Inside to 1993’s The Red Shoes.

US: Beck / Odelay vinyl LP – $11

US: Queen / Bohemian Rhapsody 2LP vinyl – $17

$17 is £13. The very same product is £31 in the UK.

Anybody notice if the REM BBC set has been heavily discounted yet?

  2. Santiago says:

Hi there. I have just bought the King Crimson Thrak box set for 90 euros plus delivery on Amazon Italy.

  3. Benny Roosen says:

how come this price cannot be seen in the EU?

if ordering from US this price will double due import taxes, VAT and other costs..
not sure if it is US made whether EU made; great differences …

    • Paul Sinclair says:

It doesn’t double. The Rolling Stones has gone up to $98 now. Shipped and taxed to the UK is $127. Since $98 doesn’t include shipping the fairer comparison is the price without shipping but WITH import VAT which is $119.93. Therefore the price is about 20% higher if you ship to the UK not 100% which is what you are saying VAT is 20% so that makes sense). It doesn’t actually take that long to check these things, so saying ‘double’ is not very helpful when it’s WAY off the mark.

      • David M says:

Also worth noting that in most US states sales tax will be added to the amazon price (if you are in the US), so hardly anybody pays the listed price.

  4. Robert Fitzpatrick says:

just ordered the stones mono box set $170 Australian best price I have seen for it thanks

  5. bbdc says:

Rolling Stones’ Honk 3CD Deluxe Edition also down to $15.82 on Amazon US (formerly ~$25) as of late Wednesday.

  6. movement says:

I wouldn’t be surprised this ends up being like that Jimi Hendrix box that they never honored the orders for.

  7. Jasper Stürup says:

I dont know if it is online or just instore, I bought Ryan Adams Heratbreaker box 4lp+DVD for 23€ at Saturn at Alexander platz in Berlin, great Price, it was not the last one.

  8. Simonf says:

I can concur with other SDE-ers over the Rolling Stones box; just had a look at my brothers set ( a genuine article) and it’s very poor artwork and reproduction. No inner sleeves either to protect the CD’s. Thank goodness I did not go for this one. I’ll stick with my mighty Japanese box The Rolling Stones’ Greatest Albums In The Sixties – the Lambourgini of box sets with a price to match but one look inside and you see that’s it’s worth every single penny!
Anyone expecting Beatles in Mono style quality from The Rolling Stones In Mono is going to be severely disappointed.

    • Adrian Grove says:

I got a genuine Rolling Stones in Mono box set And for the money it was a good buy. The albums had inner sleeves. The boxset is not as good as the Beatles in Mono but for what I paid for it I am happy with the set

    • Anthony Loman says:

Hi, can you tell me more please about that Japanese Stones box set – when it was released, its contents, what the packaging is like and the likely price if available, thanks. I was planning on forking out for the Japanese edition of the Stones in Mono set as I’ve heard the packaging is better than the U.K./US editions but maybe the set you’re referring to is the one to seek out.

  9. Sterling says:

Prince Ultimate Rave 2cd/dvd, $15.85 at Amazon US

  10. 2wicky says:

@ Peter re. US Stones Mono box set

Just read the comments at amazon.com and apparently the US box sets are packaged differently than the European or Japanese versions. Buyers complain that protective sleeves are missing and sleeves are not glued properly – just as you describe. And these commentators insist that they did order from amazon directly and didn’t buy a chinese counterfeit copy.

    • Peter says:

Good to know, looks like I’ll be passing on this. Sigh…the Japanese are living the high life again when it comes to physical CD releases.

    • -SG- says:

Well if the packaging is already pants, the perhaps the Chinese edition is the way to go LOL.

  11. James W says:

I had initially passed on The Rolling Stones “In Mono” CD box set, because I was being a snob about it. ha! My rationale was, I already have most of the songs in mono from 1963-1965 on the 2002 CD’s anyway. But, I don’t have some of those albums on CD (“No. 2”, “12 X 5”, “Flowers”), and I need some of those songs. Plus, I’m interested in hearing “”Aftermath”, “Between The Buttons” and “Satanic Majesties” in mono. So, I sprung for it. And that’s a great price!

  12. Larry Davis says:

As good as the price is on the Stones box is, a used/like new copy is $84US…will get eventually…

  13. Pedro S. says:

Thanks Paul – Just ordered the Stones box for £81 including delivery to Portugal.
As I have the option, I checked how much it would be to deliver to the UK, and it was actually more, due to some import tax to the UK that amazon.com was adding on top of the postal fee.
great price for the 15 CDs. Let’s hope the package is not too bad, as someone else commented below (no one mentions such problem on Discogs, for example)

  14. John Barleycorn says:

Late shout out for the Music Magpie eBay shop deal. Orders over £25 are entitled to a 15% discount with the code PERCENT15 at the checkout. Offer ends today (May 2nd).

There will be others, you just need to root around and look.

    • Andrew M says:

I just ordered a MacBook Pro from music magpie and was astounded by the quality of their service.

  15. Duane says:

    Grabbed the Stones and Queen!

  16. Steve Gilmour says:

  17. Frederic says:

Great about The Stones, already long on my list …

Kate Bush set BOUGHT! Thanks once again Paul.

  19. MATT SPARKES says:

    Macca £36.87 on .co.uk currently 2/5/19 14:08!

  20. Peter says:

I’ve heard the Stones mono CD set has shoddy packaging. Glue that doesn’t hold the mini CD sleeves together and poor scans of the original LP art. Can anyone confirm?? Will make or break if I buy or not.

    • John Barleycorn says:

@ Peter Re Stones box set. I’ve had it since it came out and haven’t had any of the issues you detail. The card inserts are very rigid indeed and mine came with transparent, plastic sleeves as well for extra durability. The box is sturdy. Some may have mishandled their copies, just look after it!

    • Silica says:

RE: Rolling Stones Mono Box … I think there may have been a lot of people caught out with the Chinese copies that were on Ebay & Amazon re-sellers, which were very poor quality. I think the genuine box was ok, but for the very best the Japanese box was the set for high quality. I think for the price it’s nice to have if you haven’t got it. (I appreciate it’s about personal taste too, i was happy with the genuine box).

    • Jarmo Keranen says:

I can confirm that the original LP art are very poor scans. If i know it at the time when i bought it, i have bought the Chinese version of it. I paid for this about 120 Euros. Chinese version was 45 Euros!

    • Andrea says:

@Peter, I own the vinyl version of the mono RS box, which is acceptable with regard to artwork and packaging, but not really comparable to The Beatles’ box (it also has a 48 page booklet instead of a proper book as per The Beatles).

As for the CD version, I had it in my hands once – yes it looked a bit cheap and flimsy… even for $96…

    • Wayne Olsen says:

      Mine is just fine.

    • Mar says:

There are 2 different versions of the boxes. One is made in Czek Republic, the other one in the USA. I have had both of them and have to confirm that the “European Version” is of better quality.

      • Martijn says:

I think this is an important thing to keep in mind. So it would be nice if those commenting on the quality of the packaging state if they have a US or an European version. Apparently the US version indeed has shoddy packaging, whereas the European version is much better, sturdier and including plastic outer sleeves. It is one reason why I’m still on the fence to jump on this deal or wait until a similar one for the European release appears. (And then there’s the Japanese version which is apparently even better, but also much more expensive)

    • Mark McKendrick says:

Peter…. Re. Stones box. I’ve been playing it constantly since it’s release. I have absolutely no issues with the packaging, the reproduction of the album covers, or the fact that the covers are stout card. Yes, it would be easy to split the edges of the covers if they were squeezed in too much when getting the disc out. Simple thing there is not too squeeze! The discs themselves are in paper sleeves. The albums are mini-album style and come in polythene sleeves – which I have discarded and replaced with the celophane type associated with Japanese Mini album releases. Hope this helps.

  21. Bruce says:

The double vinyl LP Kissworld – Best of Kiss that was just released in the USA is only $13.56 on amazon US right now.

  22. stevieb says:

Blimey, Kate Bush now showing up at £46.24p. Still, being Amazon it might move down or up again in the blink of an eye.
