Elliott Smith 25th anniversary edition

Elliot Smith / 25th anniversary two-disc edition

Two-CD or 2LP set • Bonus early recordings • Coffee table book of photos

Elliott Smith’s self-titled second album is being reissued for its 25th anniversary with a bonus disc “documenting the earliest known recording of Smith performing as a solo act.”

The 1995 album has been remastered and is reissued as a deluxe 2LP vinyl package or a 2CD deluxe set, with new cover art.

Both come with books, which feature previously unseen photographs by JJ Gonson, handwritten lyrics, and reminiscences from Smith’s friends and colleagues. The vinyl set is housed in a 52-page cloth-bound coffee table photo book, while the two-CD edition also comes in cloth-bound book (56-pages) albeit smaller (it’s 5.5″ x 5″).

The early recordings are ten tracks of Elliott Smith ‘Live at Umbra Penumbra’ on 17 September 1994. The label describe this anniversary set as “a revelatory look at an under-appreciated work by an artist whose influence continues to expand seventeen years after his death.”

Elliott Smith is being reissued on 28 August 2020 via the original US label Kill Rock Stars. Availability outside America is currently unknown – this could end up coming out on Domino in the UK, but there’s no news at the moment.

  1. Su Scotting says:

I thought there was going to be an album of covers by the likes of Califone & Marisa Anderson with this..anyone got any ideas?

  2. Rodolfo Martin says:

I just watched the documentary Heaven Adores You.
( Amazon Prime). It was nice to get to know something about Elliot Smith. I happen to know about him only few years ago and I found a great artist. I fell in love with Either/Or and XO and I loved both of them. This is a good opportunity to get into this second album and also, after having seen the documentary I want to buy his latest album Figure 8.

  3. stupidactingsmart says:

I don’t get why unfinished sketches (like on Heaven Adores You) get officially released but clearly finished, and not to mention brilliant, tracks like Stickman, No Life, Brand New Game (both versions!) and Lets Turn The Record Over languish in the vaults. Or rather, exist as downloads. I would love to get these more than another live set.

  4. Guy says:

It won’t deliver to Canada either…. guess we’ll just have to wait until CA store has it.

  5. Kevin says:

I will admit that the ‘cloth-bound book’ comment did give me an “Oh, crap” pause before I scrolled down to see the ever so reasonable price listed!

    Ordered!

  6. stupidactingsmart says:

Seventeen years… Christ. I’m slightly surprised by the fact that I don’t feel desperately excited for this. Probably because I’ve got so many live sets from Elliott already (albeit mainly not on physical media). And “reminisces” in the likes of Autumn de Wilde’s book, come to think of it. But you never know, I might end up buying this assuming it comes out officially in the U.K. I do love the man.

  7. BRENEZ Alain says:

Not possible to order from Amazon US if you’re in Europe. There is a limited yellow vinyl version available from Kill Rock Stars but not for international yet.

  8. patjoller says:

Yeah, great news… nice addition to the collection.

  9. Steven Boyd says:

The Amazon US site says it doesn’t ship to the UK

  10. Fernando says:

    MARAVILLOSO!!
Viva Elliott, the best songwriter of the last 25 years!!

  11. Glen says:

If I order from Amazon US, will I have to pay a customs charge for it to be delivered in the UK?

    • Paul Sinclair says:

No, because Amazon US include an ‘import fees deposit’ which stops that from happening. It’s a good system.

      • Noel Tiplady says:

“No, because Amazon US include an ‘import fees deposit’ which stops that from happening. It’s a good system.”
A pity Amazon couldn’t have done a similar arrangement for Australia.
To my knowledge Australian shoppers can’t even access any overseas Amazon websites, only the Australian Amazon website.

        • Paul Sinclair says:

Australian shoppers were able to use the US site, before COVID-19. That may have changed recently though.

          • Liam Bastick says:

Only for a very select number of items. Aussies are having to use other websites these days!
