Holland Dozier Holland / 45th Anniversary box set

Harmless Records will issue Holland Dozier Holland – The Complete 45s Collection on 23 March 2014.

The famous songwriting and production team of Lamont Dozier and brothers Brian and Eddie Holland were well established at Motown by the late sixties, but left to launch their own labels Hot Wax Records and Invictus Records in 1968.

The track listing for the eight-CD box set is still being worked on but it will feature at least the complete Invictus, Hot Wax and Music Merchant U.S. singles – both A-sides and B-sides with the possibility of some unreleased material being included.

Can you get 300 tracks on to eight cds?

Looking forward to this although Amazon appear to show it is due for release in early Feb. They appear to be very slow updating.

Great that the complete Hot Wax/Invictus archives (which some view as certainly as good if not better than HDH’s Motown efforts) are now to be available in one place after numerous reissues including the 2005 Hip-O HDH 3 CD set and the rather muddy sounding 2006 Invictus Soul Box Set on Sanctuary/Castle. While Tony Rounce has noted that the post-Motown HDH tapes have all been mixed to AM stereo radio standards and that no other versions exist – let’s hope that Harmless can do as good a job on remastering these tracks as was done on the Hip-O set rather than what they did (? nothing) on the 10 CD PIR box set which were very constrained sonically (posted whine from Harmless – “but that’s what Sony gave us”). At least we are likely to be free of the idiosyncratic track order that highlighted the PIR set.
