Neil Young / The Times (vinyl LP)

You can’t move for Neil Young releases right now, and this week sees Warners issue a vinyl version of The Times, his seven-track acoustic performance recorded at home during lockdown (the CD was released in September 2020). The songs are: ‘Alabama’, ‘Campaigner’, ‘Ohio’, ‘The Times They Are A-Changin’, ‘Lookin’ For A Leader 2020′, ‘Southern Man’ and ‘Little Wing’.

Nilsson / Gold 3CD set

45 tracks of Nilsson across three CDs for less than £6 is pretty hard to resist, particularly if you want to explore his output in more detail and go beyond the ‘usual suspects’.

Edie Brickell & New Bohemians / Hunter and the Dog Star

Edie & New Bohemians returned in 2018 with an album called Rocket (I confess that one passed me by) and so this isn’t actually their first album for decades. Brandon Aly (drums) and John Bradley Houser (bass guitar, woodwinds), Edie Brickell (vocals, guitar) are still the core members and are joined by John Walter Bush (percussion), and Kenneth Neil Withrow (guitar).

I received an email from Townsend last night advising the Shakespears Sister had been despatched – it would be nice if it arrived today (17th)

  2. John ob says:

Nick Drakes Pink Moon is only 28 minutes long so i think mr young qualifies as an lp

  3. WayneUK says:

Staring at the rude boys. New Cherry Red ska compilation out this Friday. 3CD set. Some rare finds on it as well as the usual players.

  5. Alan Deacon says:

Is the Neil Young vinyl an EP or LP (45 or 33)?

  6. Philip John Birtwistle says:

Saw the Robert Palmer Collected and my first thought was that it was on of the “fiver-in-the-supermarket” jobbies!

    • TRG says:

Yes from the Palmer to 10cc to Mott the Hoople these 3 cd collections are leaving a lot to be desired. And three CDs! One would think they would be no-brainers. A lot of missed opportunities…

  7. TRG says:

Don’t see “You’re Breaking My Heart” wtf?

  8. Sascha H. says:

Nothing for me to be honest. I am waiting for the Super Deluxe Edition of The Who´s ” Sell Out ” album coming in March 2021. Juchuh !!! There the bear steps !!!

  9. Tim Abbott says:

New Tindersticks and Hold Steady albums for those who like new music.

    • Beechlander says:

Also a new album from Mogwai “As the Love Continues” is out on Friday. The obligatory Bowie release this week is his cover of “Cosmic Dancer” with Morrissey – out on 7″ and widely available unlike the recent releases.

  10. Stevie B says:

At 26 minutes long surely the Neil Young release is a 12” single rather than an album?

    • Different Time says:

At under 26 minutes, the Beach Boys Friends is an album, not a 12″ single.

    • Caroline says:

Mini-album, I reckon. Too many songs for a single.

      I miss mini-albums. Sometimes 25 minutes is a perfect serving (i.e. The Dukes Of Stratosphear’s “25 O’Clock” or The Fall’s “Slates”).

  11. Richard S says:

Also new Tindersticks album out this Friday: https://amzn.to/3anoZsr

  12. Björn says:

    Nilsson ordered right away.
    Thanks Paul!

  13. Mark says:

Neil Young should have a weekly post all to himself.
