The always enjoyable Paul Carrack returns this Friday with a new release entitled “These Days”.
Keen to get my grubby mitts on my zeppelin box at the weekend.. still can’t believe the price of this thing … I’ve got my price down to £166 and that’s about as much as I’m willing to pay. With this release concluding the reissue campaign I sincerely hope the next set of releases will follow a more convenient route of just cd sets and vinyls no more big boxes for the time being please.
Have to say that although I’m looking forward to this set it has been totally eclipsed by the Imagine release..roll on October..
also released on Friday bomb the bass debut on blue vinyl mov reissue
I’d really like a fully expanded deluxe edition of this and S-Express’s Original Soundtrack, the previous reissues were somewhat half-hearted affairs.
One title not listed here or Pause And Play that took me by utter surprise…and it’s easily as important as the McCartney is the new solo, English language Per Gessle (post-Roxette) album called “Small Town Talk”…on his Elevator label in a new BMG deal…recorded in Nashville (lots of steel guitar on it) and the title track features a certain Mr Nick Lowe…it’s certainly a surprise release and utterly brilliant…typical Gessle…buy it and be charmed…and this is a smart move, as his career is permanently post-Marie now, he is touring as Per Gessle’s Roxette…Euro and UK dates listed, with hopefully US ones to follow in 2019…
I just noticed that not this but the following friday a new archival release by Loudon Wainwright III (father of Rufus and Martha) will be released, called “Years In The Making”, surely his take on the “The Seeds Of Love”-SDE-situation. ;-)
Amazon UK states Soft Cell box is unavailable, and no date for when and if it comes back in stock.
So they’ve probably already sold out their allotment.
I placed my oder from UK months ago. Fingers crossed.
Amazon US release date is November 9th. 2 months later!
Most other Amazon sites state a September release, and that the box is available.
@Ben in Colorado:
Don’t worry, if you pre-ordered it when you could you’re gonna get it. I guess that they will offer the possibility to order it again on wednesday or thursday when people who pre-ordered it on multiple sites will cancel the higher priced orders (like i will probably with my Amazon.uk order).
I want that Soft Cell box badly, it looks great! Waiting for a deal alert though.

@Kauwgompie:
Good luck with that, pal.
I still consider myself lucky for holding on to my pre-order of the Marc Almond-box two years ago because afaik it never went lower than the Am.uk-pre-order price of GBP 67.
So i’ll do the same with the SC-box which i’ll currently get on a similar price from Amazon.de featuring AutoRip.
@Klaus, thanks for the heads up, seems like a deal alert may be a pipe dream if that box is already unavailable now. I just ordered it from Amazon.de. $81 including shipping to NYC. Could be worse.
@Kauwgompie:
Out of interest: Is that the final price you’re paying or do you have to pay taxes and/or custom fees when importing it to the US?
@Klaus, That is the final price. So if I buy sth in Europe, Amazon deducts the VAT. I believe it is about 20%. So everything I buy in Europe gets reduced with about 20%. USA customs does not charge any more money before I receive the package, unlike the UK and many other countries in Europe.
The only time it is favorable is if shipping is not outrageously expensive and the exchange rate is within reason. With Amazon you never know, sometimes they charge $15 for shipping and sometimes just $5. Even though it depends on the size and weight of the box, it’s inconsistent. The Soft Cell box was €3 shipping to the USA. That is ridiculously cheap.
One last tip for international buyers. If Amazon gives you the choice to pay in the local currency versus your own currency, choose the local currency because Amazon’s exchange rate is not favorable. So in this case I paid in Euros (my currency are obviously Dollars) and my credit card does the exchange rate and is about 5% better than Amazon’s.
@Kauwgompie:
So you pay about EUR 69 for it (or less: Pre-order price guarantee) and would’ve still waited out on a deal alert? ;-))
That is ridiculously cheap in more than one way. Your parents in the Netherlands currently would pay about EUR 110. Do you have a spare room for me in NYC? ;-))
Thanks also for other explanations on buying abroad. Most of it i already knew but i think there might be a few other people reading our conversation as well.
As Amazon.com normally charges more than a tenner for p&p, USD 16 even when buying from marketplace-sellers i normally don’t buy in the US because even without playing the customs game they are normally more expensive for me in Germany than European sites. That also prevents me ordering from Discogs-sellers in the US normally.
To finally quote the great Nik Kershaw: You got it good, you don’t know how good you got it… ;-)
@Klaus, Nik Kershaw is indeed great! I’m a huge fan.
Yes, you are right, USA residents have it much better. That is also why I’m sometimes delusional about Deal Alerts. For starters prices are all lower here. On top of that, we don’t pay customs in the rare event that we do find content that is cheaper in Europe. I don’t know if you ever travel but if I can ever buy things for you here or have it shipped to NYC to save $$, happy to help. Take a trip to NYC and you bring it all back home. SDE regular forum contributors like you are holy. Larry Davis is another one who lives in NYC. We have regular contact. You remembered my parents, LOL! They get stuff in the mail on a regular basis. I get a phone call from them “have you been buying cd’s again? We just received another strange package”.
The new Spiritualized (vinyl) looks really cheap in Italy…
1700 copies for ‘True Romance’? Does that number signify anything special?
(also, small mistake in the lay-out with Lenny Kravitz preorder links?)
Thanks for excellent SDE coverage, as always.
Paul Simon on CD and Vinyl for me because the project intrigues me. However – what I’ve heard of the album on streaming services is not impressive.
The start of the autumn craziness……..;-)
God bless the autumn craziness!
Exactly Stephen….:-)
