Ride ride again: August date for band’s sixth album
Ride have announced details of their next album.
This Is Not A Safe Place is the second album the Oxford quartet have released since they announced their reformation in 2014, and comes hot on the heels of a short selection of dates where they celebrated 30 years together.
Recorded at the end of 2018, the new album is due this August and sees them reunite with DJ and producer Erol Alkan, who was also on production duties for 2017’s Weather Diaries, as well as legendary mixer Alan Moulder.
It will be the band’s sixth album overall, and in a nice touch the cover art even references their classic 1990 debut Nowhere. It comes in a variety of formats, with double vinyl in both black and coloured variations. The official store offers special bundles and signed prints. The first taster of the collection is the single ‘Future Love’, which you can preview above.
The band will be spending Summer touring around the festivals as well as supporting The Cure on a couple of vast dates as part of their Disintegration celebrations.
This Is Not A Safe Place is released 16 August 2019 via Wichita Recordings.

This is a GREAT album! saw them on Tuesday at the album launch in Kingston and it was LOUD and just a good set.
My black album is 33 rpm.
Anyone know if this is 331/3 or 45 rpm? Thanks!
My UK Green vinyl is 33rpm but I have heard US pressings are 45rpm.
Did anyone else on the Ride mailing list get a weird email on April Fool’s Day supposedly from Andy Bell about Ride splitting up again..? Very strange..!
It was a hoax email after their account was hacked. I thought it was an april fools joke at first but the more you read the more cutting the remarks were.
Well, this is a pleasant surprise. Looking forward to this!
Always here for a new Ride album. The “Nowhere” tour was my first proper gig and that whole era still sounds amazing to me. “Weather Diaries” was really enjoyable and added some new sounds and new approaches so i does seen as if they’re as willing to experimental as they were in the 90’s. Bring it on!
True but it’s certainly better than that horrible Faye Webster lp cover!
The art works harks back to the nowhere sleeve, the album that got me into proper music!
Great band. Going Blank Again and Carnival of Light are two of my favorite albums of the 90’s although I like them all.
Andy Bell is a great songwriter and a tasteful quality guitarist. I think his work with Hurricane #1 is underrated. He also wrote many of the better Oasis and Beady Eye songs of the aughts and beyond.
I like Ride quite a bit, particularly their album “Going Blank Again,” and although “Future Love” from their new album is a delightful sunny tune with nice harmonies, the heavy use of reverb sadly drowns the song (no pun intended). I would be very interested to sample more songs from Ride’s new album, which hopefully Erol Alkin didn’t muddy-up with too much echo effect. The album cover-art looks great, and I’m glad Ride is still making new music!
I cannot wait for this. Ride were one of the best bands of the 1990s and their comeback album was fantastic.
Album sleeve design really is a dying art, isn’t it?
It’s all subjective. Perhaps this art has a deeper meaning known only to the band/artist and we’re meant to delve further.
