The Alan Parsons Project blu-ray audio now widely available separately

The blu-ray audio edition of the 40th anniversary edition of The Alan Parsons Project‘s Tales Of Mystery and Imagination is now widely available as a standalone product.

Previously, you either had to buy the pricey box set or order from PledgeMusic to acquire the blu-ray, which contains a 5.1 surround sound mix on blu-ray audio as well as a hi-res stereo version. Now that has changed and it can be ordered via other channels. including Amazon.

The blu-ray is officially released on 9 December 2016 in the UK, although it came out last week in some territories.

As ever, I’ve bought just the BluRay, as that’s the only part I want. It’s nice for a change, to not have to spend a load of money on a large box set, just to get the one BluRay to get at the hi-res/multichannel mix(s)… :)

According to Sally Woolfson, who curated the 4-disc version of this set and last year’s Turn of a Friendly Card, it is. She talks about it in the book included with the SDE, stating that she’s already in talks with Sony about it. She doesn’t specifically mention 5.1, but like you I wait in hope…..

I hope there will be a version for those who don’t want vinyl LPs. I didn’t get either the box set (because of the price and LP) nor the blu-ray audio (because I want the bonus material from disc 3 and the supposedly better mastering of the first two discs)..

David could this be true or a lucky guess. I would imagine there are no details on their webpage.

………….and coming next year, an SDE in some form of Eye In The Sky for its’ 35th Anniversary.

Seriously, it’s nice that we can get this separate…I don’t have to rebuy something I already have (the Mofi sounds great).

Yes, the QuadraphonicQuad folks were able to get in contact with him directly and do some convincing. How nice that he went through with the standalone.

Really looking forward to receiving my copy pretty soon, the great thing too, although i haven’t been keeping track of time i have been shopping on Amazon UK since 2004, and they’re one of the best, i guess this is where loyalty comes into fruition, i received a 15 pound discount which brings the cost to around 63 pounds, can’t get any better than that! They’re one of the best. The box set will be amazing, a 60 page booklet, Replica press kit, tape man sticker? not sure what that is. Original album poster, original album in 5.1, a 2 lp set, a 3cd set both with deluxe bonus tracks plus a whole 70 minutes of previously unreleased material great stuff.

  8. Craig Williams says:

The original stereo mix is on there, but the 5.1 contains elements of both the 1976 and 1987 mixes.

    • Peter says:

      Which comes quite handy.
The 5.1 mix is fantastic. Everything is where you expect it to be.
There is so much ‘air’ in the surround mix.

The packaging gods have heard our cries, and blessed us. Gods be praised!!!

Bought it last week from the official APP website for $22 and free shipping. $14 dollars cheaper than Amazon. Can’t wait till it arrives.

  11. Peter says:

Seems they used the original mix without the extended Orson Welles lines from 1987… :-(
There would have been enough space (either on dvd or bluray) to put both on.

Ah, some sanity for a Monday morning! How rare. :-)

  14. MiG says:

Darn it Al. I would have bought this if it was DVD.

    • Wayne Klein says:

Well Blu-ray would beat it hands down. If you haven’t upgraded…why? The players are less than $100 U.S.
