Guess I waited too long to get a copy. Can I buy your used one Paul? lol! ;)

  2. BRENEZ Alain says:

Ordered mine from Amazon Spain as the preorder price was really great at 110 euro. Received it yesterday with the very bad surprise that the box set was sent WITHOUT shipping carton, shipper label was stuck on the box set and shipped without any protection. Result = one of corner of the box is crushed with 2 record sleeves bent on the same corner and the box is dirty in several places. Chatted with Amazon who of course apologised and gave me 30% discount. Nice but I’d rather have the box set in mint condition. So reordered it again but this time from FNAC.

    • Axel says:

Ordered at Amazon Spain too, for about the same price and got the box shipped without any carton too. Happily I only small scratches on the corners, all covers are fine.
As the vinyl has no visible flaws and the price was quite low, I will keep them. I wrote a email to amazon – to take more care with collector items – and got a answer that they are going to do better (their answer is a template – which is fine for me).

  3. Noel says:

I need them remixes and 12 inch versions ASAP

  4. AB Hammond says:

Nice packaging except for the awful inner sleeves but good originals kill this set for sound.
This remaster sounds artificially soft and rounded with all the air sucked out of it.

  5. Wayne C says:

I have just received my replacement box set from Amazon and you guessed it “Soldier of Love” in the second copy is also badly scuffed to the same extent and practically the same shaped scuffing on the vinyl. I would recommend anyone who purchases this box to check their records throughly over. A great set for 5/6 of it. I don’t know if I can go through requesting another copy of it. Third time lucky I doubt it.

    • Trash says:

      @Wayne –
I also noticed that the scuffing on the two copies I received looked pretty much identical. I actually had my original copy to compare it with as I had not sent it back yet.

I decided to give it a play nonetheless and actually it doesn’t sound *too* bad a few minor clicks but given the choice is to return the set and ask for a full refund or live with it, I decided I would live with it. It’s probably the album I will play least of all.

I’d love to know what is causing the issue…

  6. Nathan Thomas says:

I see amazon have now whacked the price up overnight from £130 to £149.99

    • Adam says:

Looks like the first run of vinyl is almost gone. Most of the Amazon listings are now resellers. Only a few retailers have stock on hand.

  7. Trash says:

Managed to get almost all the way through the set without a single mark and then opened up Soldier of Love…

It looks like it has been used as a frisbee (on both sides).

Hate to send it back just for one album but unfortunately back it goes… :-(

  8. Arnd says:

So there is a placeholder for a possible new album, but then again, a true record collector would never throw away the original placeholder, would he?

  9. Larry Davis says:

This set would be even nicer if one, there were poly-lined sleeves in all 6 records, two, if it was all white or clear vinyl…and I will happily trade an unopened Prince “Sign O The Times” 8CD/1DVD SDE for a copy…any takers??

  10. Saar Freedman says:

speaking of N.A.D, Paul do you know what happened to the Eurythmics Pic Disc of Be Yourself Tonight? did we once again hit that streak of bad luck with Eurythmics reissues? seem to have not materialized.

  11. Kauwgompie says:

A true shame that this box doesn’t contain any b-sides and remixes. If it is released on CD and the price is right, I may buy it. Essentially this isn’t much different than an “Original Album Series” box that contains 5 albums and that sells for a tenner. Without any extra’s, it’s hardly worth buying these. Might as well stream them. Even though I never sell any of my CD’s, I do look at resale value. With additional content, the resale value is always there, especially when eventually it goes out of print. Just regular albums without Rarities and remixes doesn’t seem to hold its value much.

    • Adam says:

Some of her reissue “regular albums” go for hundreds of dollars. Ditto for sealed originals so this is a bargain in comparison. No extra tracks required. This is already becoming hard to get from many retailers so I see it ending up being worth a fortune if it stays limited. Amazon US listing went to secondary market on the day of release and other sites went from “out of stock” back to “pre-order” status so we shall see if the company ramps up production due to demand. The few essential “bonus tracks” from the 80s are fairly easy to get anyway. I own all the 12″ singles. Having the core albums on high quality pressings is the biggest draw for me.

      • Kauwgompie says:

I’m assuming you are talking about vinyl because the CD box isn’t even out yet and who knows if/when that’ll happen. I was referring to CD’s. Vinyl boxes seem to go out of print pretty quickly, so you are right. CD’s is a bit different in my experience. There is no “Original Album Series” on vinyl.

  12. Frédéric says:

Again à big mistake on the DOA box Invincible… Instead of the 2 remixes cds I got fan the flame twice!!!

  13. Tim says:

This is a beautiful box and I feel the real pleasure would only be experienced by holding it as with any product which has an exceptional quality finish.
It would be nice to own but I have responsibilities and cannot afford it and I already have the music which is what matters. Its not about been able to “man up” and face your partner down its about whether you can really justify the cost in relation to your commitments. If you have that spare money that’s fine but you should not be hiding things from your partner that cost as much as these boxsets do then loosing them in a vast collection, “What that!, I got it years ago!” (Please don’t look at the release date) I don’t think this website is served well if we all act like it’s some secret male club with “The Wife” as the enemy.
This is very preachy but is something I would tell my children if I felt I needed to. Besides from personal experience it never ends well.

    • John MC cann says:

Yes very preachy,,so you can’t afford the record that’s too bad!,,but who said this website is some kind of male club with the wife as the enemy? Plenty of girls post on here,, Caroline from Glasgow makes some brilliant posts,,,my problem is the tendancy for men to tell us that they have to hide deliverys from there wife’s,,you work hard you buy a record, they work hard they buy a lipstick or skirt or whatever they want a record maybe? do they fear the post man when your about no they don’t,, they laugh in your face as you ask them wots in the latest parcel,so I repeat man up!

  14. Paul says:

My box set arrived this morning. I know the minimalist design has been maligned a little (!) but it does suit the artist. It looks great. The individual LPs are very nicely done too.

Unfortunately the Love Deluxe A-side in my set looks badly scuffed in several places (my turntable being out of commission right now means I can’t test it). The other 11 sides of vinyl look pristine. I’m hoping it’s just superficial…

    • FROM MARS says:

Sade. Coolest Girl to grace St.Martins.
This Far. Coolest Box Set, 2020.

      White Company //!
This is your Hempel Hotel (RIP) of Box Sets..

    • Wayne C says:

I checked my albums this morning and everything was ok till I got to album six side two and that was very badly scuffed. Other eleven sides perfect. I think the sleeves ain’t opened enough on initially packing them. Poly sleeves could have saved this from happening.
Shame to have to return a perfect box set due to this one side. Also opened my Dire Straits box set and “Making Movies” has a large scratch all the way through Tunnel of Love, I’ve had the original of this since it came out and it’s got no scratches or marks at all. It’s such a shame records ain’t packed as well as they used to do years ago.

      • Trash says:

        @Wayne C –
I just posted a comment similar to yours (I hadn’t read through all the comments before posting). Basically exactly the same experience. All LPs fine until I got to Soldier of Love which is really really badly scuffed (on both sides in my case). Probably caused by the cardboard inner on Soldier of Love. As Paul says in the unboxing – the simple addition of polylined sleeves would have avoided the problem (and certainly saved a lot of wastage).
        Oh well…

        • Wayne C says:

Do you think it’s something to do with the black paper inner sleeve perhaps ?, all the others were perfect and I’m reluctant to send back for one album?. But equally I doubt they will be able to send the one album out as a replacement so it’s a bit of a dilemma and what happens if the replacement is worse than the first,

  15. Shawn C. says:

Great video Paul. I received my box yesterday. Sadly, I have many releases on preorder for this week and this is the only one received on time (TFF, Dire Straits, Prince, Ultravox, a-ha, Alphaville, and XTC), but I suppose you can only listen to one at once!

I’ve only listened to Diamond Life and Promise, but they both sound fantastic. Sade has such a perfect, lush, detailed sound for vinyl. I’ve really enjoyed them.

I agree it is a minimal, no frills box, but really nicely done. and the vinyl is expertly mastered. It is expensive and I’m happy with it. I think you’re absolutely right about the cost of a potential CD box likely detracting from the “chic” nature of this box – a $180 vinyl box vs a $14.99 CD box. I’m guessing the CD box will be released, but distanced from the vinyl box.

Incidentally, looks like Amazon US has already run out of these and the vultures are already charging about $150 over the price that I bought it for.

  16. Larry Davis says:

The article said pressed on LP & CD…so once the CD box drops, I’ll be buying that…vinyl box looks nice, simple & elegant…you said the feel of the outer box is leathery?? If so, this box is the vinyl equivalent of a Mercedes or Beemer…I hope a CD outer box has the same feel…so with this, the Ultimate Collection 2CD/DVD and my 5CDs of B-sides/12″s, I’m good…would just need the vidclips/Lovers Live…and Sweetback…and the new 7th album…

  17. Andrew Abley says:

Excellent pressings, sound is fantastic and great box. Simply a bargin at the price, original copies of the last three albums and the later MOV releases are expensive. Interesting on the ?

Like must on here this weekend it is hide the packaging and hope the wife is out
So far so good Amazon delivered Sade yesterday .
TFT arrived this morning, normally don’t buy Picture Discs… but
2 Ian McNabb albums from his website. 2018 Our future in Space and 2019’s Star Smile Strong didn’t realise that Ian’s site still had copies available

NAD 20 to collect Plan B, Roses and Talk Talk
Plan B long over due on vinyl re-release and original copies are +++++ expensive
Lot’s of music arriving and during the week picked up a very clean first press of Who is Jill Scott

  18. Harcourt Fenton Mudd says:

if the internet is to be believed:

    https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/sade-are-recording-their-first-album-in-a-decade-during-lockdown__31192/

so where will you put your piece of foam from the sade box when the new LP is out?

Answer: the empty david bowie live adventures box! But…..you are gonna need 6 foam inserts to fill it.

Shopping list: 6 sade box sets. 6 new sade lps and one DBowie box (empty_).

BUT …if the DB box has room for 6 DOUBLE LP’s ……help! …..This is getting expensiver and expensiver.

    • Wayne C says:

Interestingly that article mentions all six albums pressed onto vinyl and cd. So one would presume that those who prefer the cd box sets may be getting a similar level of happiness as we vinyl enthusiasts. Fingers crossed for them doing a matching cd box set. Got my box yesterday and it really was a bargain at the short lived pre order price I got it for .

  19. Joe Atari says:

thinking about it, actually i think they missed a trick. Sade does appeal to the same demographic that would have bought the recent 6cd sets by Dire Straits and the Police, and on an even wider scale, the ABBA albums CD box, maybe those like me that aren’t that bothered about extra tracks or massive improvement in audio quality. The omission of bonus b-side material is also a shame, as there’s at least an albums worth of decent tracks, excluding edits and external remixes. But hey, its Sony, one of the least interesting major labels.

  20. p britten says:

Beautiful box. Beautiful band. Beautiful woman. But the best thing about it is the title : So Far… Maybe I’m wrong but maybe it means we won’t have to wait another decade for a new album.

  21. Paul Mac says:

I wonder what the design company’s fee per letter was for that, and did they show any shame at all when collecting the cheque?

Not for me, especially after the pounding the wallet has taken lately, but I might stream a few tracks for mostalgia’s sake later….

  22. John MC cann says:

Why don’t you and Tom man up a bit!its your money if you want to buy a record, buy a record,!

  23. MARK LEVY says:

I’m sure Sony will change their minds eventually and release this on cd.

  24. beachedglass says:

Tom – Perhaps you and the Mrs. can sit down and enjoy some of these tunes together this weekend. Marvel at the glossy sleeves, the thickness of the vinyl and the color of the ink used for the signatures.

  25. edasfan says:

We all know how amazing these albums are – but if you would like to read new reviews of several of them – these new reviews were posted today in the Reviews section on Pitchfork.com. Still have my Diamond Life UK cassette with Smooth Operator + Snake Bite – would love to see this on CD someday.

  26. Shane says:

I’ve heard the official release date was pushed back? Sade’s official store site reads ‘will not ship until December’ and my Amazon preorder says late November/early December’

    Any info, Paul?

  27. Tom says:

Mine arrived today, alongside 8x Kraftwerk coloured vinyl, Ultravox Vienna deluxe CD set and signed Suede Beautiful Ones 4CD set.

Unfortunately, the wife was working from home when the postie staggered down the drive with that lot.

Needless to say, I am properly in the doghouse and may need to spend the weekend in the shed…

    • Mark R says:

Haha. Glad I’m not the only one who has this problem. I got into real trouble with my wife about the His Dark Materials box set last April. Damn you COVID!

Re: Sade box set. It’s too expensive for me. Happy if it were half the price.

    • Arnd says:

Not a native speaker, I had to look up “in the doghouse”.
Well, hope you have a 5.1 system in your shed …

  28. Eric Eide says:

Greatly looking forward to this set and would love to see something similar done for Tracy Chapman’s eight studio albums, only three of which, I believe, have been released on vinyl.

  29. Rob says:

Really pleased with this, inner paper sleeves aside. I was lucky to lock in early at £109.99 on Amazon UK before they realised the error, and it’s definitely worth that. I’m sure it’ll drop to a similar price if sufficient numbers have been produced.

I interpreted the “?” foam inner as a bit of a rescue for producing too large a box, so the “?” might be as much of a question to the band as to us!

My entry point to Sade was the “Best of” on CD in the 90s… that’s readily available on vinyl now so I might even pick up a copy to fill the gap.

“Lovers Live” would’ve been a nice inclusion also, but mostly this gives me exactly what I wanted; all the studio albums on vinyl. Pure class.

    • GRAHAM says:

      Rob
Best carefull if you order the Best of Sade on vinyl at the moment. I had 3 copies, all from different sources and all were faulty. They skipped in several places.

  30. Matthew Jessee says:

Looks nice but still no remastered B side &
    12” collection… :(

  31. Jurgen says:

I love this music. I have their two first albums on vinyl and could find 5 maxi-singles (that belong to these two albums). I have all their albums on CD and 9 maxi CD-singles starting from their third album. But my collection is not complete and I’m waiting (for several years now) for deluxe versions of all their albums. What I don’t have is too expensive or too rare. I’m not buying this because unfortunately it does not contain what I need.

  32. Marc says:

Just checked my 1984 copy of Diamond Life. It has ……..A Poly Lined Inner! :-)

Thanks for another great unboxing video, Paul

    • Straker says:

A black poly-lined inner IIRC. Don’t have mine to hand currently but that nerd detail’s stuck from decades ago.

  33. Fredpostman says:

Hopefully they will release a cd boxset with all those great 12inch versions added .

  34. Kevin Brown says:

Quite a nice set but CD release would have been my choice.
The CD release will hopefully be at a later date as I’ve just heard (unrelated subject)
That Bob Marley ” The Complete Island Recordings” released in a Vinyl box recreating the Zippo Lighter a few years ago is Now to be released in a CD box with the Zippo Box.
I have No other detail on this product…….But it does give hope that maybe we could get this Sade box set on CD release.
