  1. Paul MacLennan says:

I’m lovin’ this box set!!!! A+++

  2. Robert Morgenstern says:

Some lost box sets are available from JPC germany. But no word of a signed print. Wonder what kind of stock they selling. I am so happy to have one ordered from your Shop and got it in pristine condition without any flaws on box or print. Thank you again Paul

  3. Sterling says:

Received my box also without a print from Amazon US. Customer service refunded full price due to the error, and allowed me to keep the product also. All in all no complaints, and as usual great service from my amazon representative. Perhaps Demon will still have stock and I will receive that soon,

Thanks for all your hard work Mr. Sinclair. The box set looks fantastic ,as with any work you are involved in.

  4. Klaus says:

    Boarding completed!

Received my replacement for the missing signed print today directly from Demon Music. Thanks a lot. Enjoyed listening to the cd‘s in the meantime.

I‘m so happy with this box. Thanx to both Paul‘s.

One question: How was is possible to produce the box without having an age rating for the DVD? Is it without age limit? For me it‘s fine because i like the cleaner look of the box and the vinyl replica look of the DVD without the age rating logo.

  5. Matteo says:

I unboxed mine only today. I bought the signed print version directly from sde but i couldn’t find any print… Can you show me how it was supposed to be?
    Thanks

  6. Kauwgompie says:

I received mine today. I guess shipping to the USA takes an extra week. That’s fine as shipping cost to NYC were very low. Unfortunately I did not receive the signed print. I checked the box and it was nowhere. I called Amazon UK and they refunded me the entire thing because they had no replacements. I wasn’t after that at all (I want the signed print) but I guess if they offer, why say no. I just read that maybe when you contact Edsel they can still provide a signed print so that’s what I’m doing next. Regardless, the box is absolutely great. Thanks Paul! Hopefully Edsel -and you Paul- will follow this up with further cd-singles box sets. Thompson Twins comes to mind. Edsel re-issued parts of their catalogue already (those seem to be out of print now) so let’s do that cd singles box set.

  7. David Bly says:

    Paul,

First of all, I have to thank you greatly for compiling this in the first place, and for Paul Young for recording all this stuff, and signing the print. But I wanted to tell you a amusing (and slightly worrisome) story…

So I was walking home on Saturday (2nd) and the postman was up ahead up my delivering stuff two doors down from my house. I noticed he had some packages. As he went up the stairs to that house he dropped the biggest one. I thought – oh no – not knowing if it was mine.
I walked down to my house, went in but left the door open.
A minute later the postman came up the stairs and indeed did deliver that box along with two others.

I frantically went in the house to open the big box – it was the one with the Paul Young set and print in it, but you, or whomever packs these things had done such a great job that not a thing was damaged! Bravo!

In a funny thing, one of the other boxes was the two Buzzcocks LPs, also arriving in perfect condition. That evening I happened to look at the TV schedule and saw a film called “Love Bites”(!) listed. I watched it and it was a fairly lame vampire movie with Adam Ant as the main vampire! Don’t know how I missed that all these years.

And in the third box was the Emerson, Lake & Palmer “Pictures of an Exhibition” 2-CD that you’d mentioned as a great deal.

It was a wonderful SDE day – thanks for all you do!

    David

    • Paul Sinclair says:

Hi David… thanks for the amusing feedback :) I guess you are in America if you have only just got your Paul Young. Great to hear that it survived the journey (and the fall) intact! We do try our best with packaging and sounds like it did the job here. Hope you enjoy and thanks for shopping via SDE!

  8. Dana says:

It’s taken me a few days to start importing & living with the box set here in the States. On the whole, thrilled with this – as with the earlier Paul Young compilation.

I’m actually happy that is was a big signed print, what’s that they say “value for money…”?

I may be wrong, as it’s been a bit since I had the original vinyl (and this question may be covered elsewhere here), but I think there was a live version of “Broken Man” as a “Playhouse” EU b-side that is absent here. Am I misremembering? Are there other b-sides that didn’t make the cut fro various reasons…?

Again, thrilled with the set, just looking to be a completest with Paul’s CBS output.

    Thanks for the great job

  9. SeanL says:

Received my print from Demon today after contacting them a few days ago, excellent, together with the discount from Amazon for not receiving it this has to be one of the best box sets I’ve purchased. Phenomenal work Paul well done !

  10. Robert Laversuch says:

Hi, finally received my set this morning. It is wonderful. But knew it would be. Everything you have curated so far has been wonderful!
Much to my annoyance no print. Phoned up amazon and after 15 mins of remonstrating got shirty, yes I apologized to the gentleman in question, and got a 20 quid refund. Have written to Demon in the vain hope they might still have a signed print to give away.
Keep up the good work and yes, I should have ordered from your site, and have learned my lesson.
By the way, received Buzzcocks yesterday – sublime. Well packaged – perfect!
    Thanks again

  11. Robert van Dam says:

    Paul,

I would like to know how you did get envolved to create this boxset. And how long have you been working on this boxset.

Are there any plans for a deluxe version of “The Secret Of Association (1985)” ?

    • Paul Sinclair says:

I suggested it to Demon, and they licensed from Sony/CBS and we worked on it on and off for a year or so. Edsel did a deluxe of The Secret Of Association back in 2007, I think it was. To be honest, there’s not really much point now, everything that we could put on it has been issued on the three sets I’ve worked on – Remixes and Rarities, Tomb of Memories and now The CBS Singles Collection.

      • Robert van Dam says:

Thanks for your reply & answer. I didn’t know that there was a deluxe version of “The Secret Of Association”. If you could do another singles boxset like this one, which artist would you choose ?

  12. Kasper Andersen says:

Got my boxset today from Amazon uk with the signed photo.
    Verry happy.

  13. Se says:

My copy arrived to Dublin yesterday. Great set Paul really pleased and the sound quality is really good. Love reading all the Superdeluxe information, thank you for all the hard work that goes into it.

  14. Marcel Rijs says:

I spent much of my teenage years arguing with my sister about who was better: Paul Young (her idol) or Kim Wilde (mine). After all these years it turns out they are both still making music. While Kim is having a bit more success with her music these days, Paul is getting the better reissues right now. I am hoping for a similar box set of my favourite, as this is really a comprehensive set. Congratulations to both Pauls for this great box!

  15. poptones says:

Just received my parcel this afternoon. I ordered from Amazon UK. Everything’s fine. It was well packaged. The original package containing the box set was well protected with stiffeners inside and outside by the big Amazon parcel box. I easily found the signed print inside.

Very happy with my purchase. I just wish the print was the size of a CD in order to fit inside the box set. Instead it’s an A4 size print, I think that size is more appropriate for a vinyl box set, not a Cd box set. Just to make it clear, I’m not complaining Paul :), Only saying I wish the print would fit the size of the box set. Don’t know if I’m the only one to see things that way?

Anyway, very nice work and thanks again for that wonderful box set.

  16. Le Baron says:

Just receiced my parcel ok today (France).
Ordered at Sde shop so the signed print was of course included.
I cannot express how delighted I am to own such a top-quality item! I’ve been a p.y fan since 1983 (I was 9) at a time when I did struggle to find 7” and 12”.
I will never thank Paul S enough to have paid tribute to the great talent of this singer by releasing such an anstounding box set.
Thank you so so much, Paul!
Keep up the good work on this fabulous website!!

  17. Klaus / Germany says:

I received my CD Box today. As Other Customers complained too, my parcel does not contain the Signed Print.

The cardbox Amazon Used For Sending was to small to fit an A4 Print. The CD Box was Not send Out in the Original packaging from Demon Music. Someone at the Amazon Warehouse ripped off the Print and Put the CD Box into a smaller box.

I have send an email To Demon Music and asked for a new Signed Print.

    • Ivan Mani says:

Yes, Demon also told me that Amazon chose not to use the packaging they provided. Not sure if that was because someone ripped off the print or something else such as lower postage on the alternative packaging.

Amazon are giving me a 20% refund and Demon are sending a replacement print. I’m very happy with that.

  18. Michael Combe says:

This box is very great. but i also order this box at Amazon.uk, but no signed picture of Paul :-(
I have asked Amazon to send one as well….i hope so

  19. Darren Linklater says:

Great box set Paul. Just shows what can be done when someone who cares does it.

Bought as a present for my good lady who is a big fan. Unfortunately Amazon didn’t put the picture in the box. After a few issues with other releases I am getting sick of Amazon so will be ordering through SDE when I can.

Emailed Demon today and they have already posted a replacement. Top service from Demon!

  20. Steve says:

    Thanks a lot, Paul
If you ever get another chance to do an unboxing video with another artist of group; I’d love to see it. I really enjoyed it.

  21. Le Baron says:

    Hi Paul,
Sorry if this has already been asked before, but will this set be available on streaming plateforms (Deezer, Apple Music, Spotify,…)?
    Thanks!

  22. Stan says:

Paul Young comes over as a really nice guy in the vid, like to buy him a pint sometime. Paul S can we get an index of past pages befor main item write up, Amazon price and comments pages? Cheers great site!

  23. Cornelius says:

Great item. Very well priced. The signed A4 print is quality.

  24. Nigel Hall says:

Great set Mr Sinclair! Mine arrived this morning from Amazon and I’m pleased to say the print WAS included. Someone at one of the their distribution centres has clearly fucked up in a big way though. Luckily it sounds like Demon will be sorting it out – though I hope that doesn’t mean Mr Young has to sign loads more prints!

A very few minor points – it would have been nice to have the two ‘Common People’ singles on separate discs as they were originally released that way – and to have the second video version on the DVD too, as well as the first one. Is the DVD encoded as NTSC by the way? It plays a little jerkily at times on my (UK) TV but it’s still nice to have all the videos in one place finally, and especially to see the intros to Wherever I Lay My Hat and Come Back And Stay which never seemed to get aired on TV. But minor niggles aside it’s the best CD set I’ve bought in ages and I’ll be listening to it all day today!

Can we have one for Eurythmics next please?

    • Paul Sinclair says:

Thanks Nigel. Common People was a tiny compromise to keep production costs down… I think everyone can agree this box delivers outstanding value. There were rights issues, believe it or not, with the ‘alternate’ videos. The original plan was to deliver them in a bonus features section. Sony couldn’t find the paperwork (or something) and wouldn’t agree to have them included. Oh well.

  25. malcy says:

Another disappointed Amazon customer. I presume from comments below that Amazon removed the boxset from a outer plain card box and the signed posted was hidden inside that plain box.

In some respects Demon’s fault as have had similar in the past when the studio warns the retailer not to remove from the plain box. Was there a warning on this outer box ? I can understand a high street retailer doing this as they want the colourful box on display but not the web sellers.

I will try Demon. Thanks for email address below, as these have been long disposed of by Amazon so no hope getting one through them.

  26. Neil says:

I’m not trying to be funny but isn’t the music more important than a signed print which people are going to do what with ? This has taken a bit of a mauling on Amazon with reviews about the print being missing which is very sad.

    • Paul Sinclair says:

People are entitled to get a print they were promised, but I agree, giving the product one star for some logistical cock-up is a bit much.

      • Robert Morgenstern says:

Thank you Paul for the much better packaging for overseas orders. So i have the chance to get a pristine version of the set and print.

  27. Robert Morgenstern says:

I have ordered through SDE – Shop and waiting for my box. I think it will arrive in the next few days. I’m glad to see that the signed print will not be folded in the Box. Great thing for the fan but a bad thing for the supplier. So maybe some throw it away because they think it’s the packaging.

    • Paul Sinclair says:

Robert… you will find that for overseas customers we put the whole package inside a bigger outer box. I didn’t trust the packaging it came in to not fall apart!

  28. Marcus says:

Just want to say thanks to everyone for the advice about the signed print being in a separate envelope tucked in the flap of the packaging. I assumed, as others have done, that it was within the box set as labelled. So close to throwing the packaging away.
    Thanks Paul.

  29. Nigel Quinless says:

Great to see Paul unboxing his own boxset. I’ve just opened my copy of the boxset from Amazon which I ordered way back on 10th December to ensure I received a set which was limited to 1500 copies that contained the print signed by Paul himself. So upset as my set did not contain the print even tho there was a sticker on the box stating it did. After speaking to Amazon they said they can’t replace it and offered me 10% refund. I said I didn’t want that as the signed print meant a lot because Paul is my all time favourite artist. They didn’t care and said send it back for a full refund, which is what I am now doing. I’ve got to wait for them to refund me now before I can try to order it elsewhere as I do not have sufficient funds to order it again until Amazon have refunded me. Annoyingly this is the second time Amazon have let me down over a signed edition. The last was when Frida from ABBA released a signed print with her album Something’s Going On. That time tho they just emailed me to say they couldn’t fulfill the order even tho I ordered it months before release. I’m so gutted and so upset with Amazon. They obviously don’t care that customers lives are really affected by this as, for me anyway, I’d been looking forward to Paul’s release and getting a signed print.

    • Paul Sinclair says:

Nigel… a better approach would be to keep the Amazon box and contact Demon Music about the print. Someone posted their email address earlier…

      • Ivan Mani says:

I know many people like me didn’t get the signed print but I don’t understand returning it to Amazon if they say they can’t provide the print. Is the boxset valueless to people who are fans of Paul Young?

I have contacted Demon but if that fails, I can still enjoy the music and the presentation.

  30. John Archbell says:

It was good of Paul to agree to take part in the unboxing feature although he didn’t appear to be very comfortable. I could have watched an hour of it – I wished he’d gone into more detail. I did enjoy the part about the video process and what directors he preferred to work with. I guess that’s down to finding a chemistry and creating a buzz in order not to look too serious in front of camera!

I don’t think he was joking either about feeling emotional – he sounded it.

Did you pass him a Kleenex afterwards Paul? You did look a bit star struck there as well!

As for being a proud owner of this particular set, I am well happy! It’s an absolute dead cert for me. This man was writing songs as I dabbled with various girlfriends (not at the same time) during my teens and they loved the fact I was a PY fan. When I think back to those days I can’t help but play over ‘Wherever I Lay My Hat’ in my head.

A true masterstroke of a box set. I’m treating the bonus signed print as – a bonus funnily enough. I won’t be framing and hanging it anytime soon. I would have been just as happy with the set on its own.

  31. Duncan says:

Any sign of the high res artwork for the old portable/digital version?

    Great set by the way..

  32. Leemer says:

This really is wonderful. I really enjoy Paul Young’s music. Thank you again Paul Sinclair from your give away years ago!!!

Very nice video! Will be picking this up sometime!

  33. Chris Squires says:

Not sure how Amazon could get a first (and probably last) edition of something wrong like this. Mine had the picture in it, many others had the picture in it. If all of the pictures and boxes hit their warehouses at the same time, which they probably would have, how could the boxes and envelopes with the pictures not get sent out together…?
Don’t forget the picture is in the packaging as delivered by the supplier, so amazon, one would think, would have to actively remove the picture from the box or remove the CD casing from the box for them to be separated…

A sad aside to an otherwise excellent archive.

    • Neil McL says:

No signed print here either was removed from the original packaging and sent in an amazon box signed print probably thrown away. Eejits!!!!

  34. Byron McGuinness says:

    Hi Paul

Just wanted to compliment you on a stunning piece of work with the Paul Young Singles box; everything about it is fantastic and clearly lovingly done; the signed print is an added bonus.

Your work with Mr Young shows how a great box set should be put together, and rivals the Bobbie Gentry box from last year for top class quality and value.

    • Paul Sinclair says:

Thanks very much!! A team effort in the end though, with Demon embracing the idea and bringing a great package to market at what I personally think is an amazing price (even if it didn’t have the print).

  35. Wilfred says:

ordered from Amazon, no print, gutted. Amazon seem to consistently get things wrong these days, spoke to them and searched the packaging but nowhere to be found, they are escalating the issue (whatever that means) but i am just gutted not to get it, i will try the demon contact route as others have and cross my fingers

(Paul the CD Tracklist for every time you go away above repeats Track 4. Every Time You Go Away (US Single Version) & 4. Every Time You Go Away (Instrumental)

  36. Sean L says:

Could somebody tell me the email address of Demon please as I’ve not received my photo either from Amazon…. it’s not going back if there’s no more being printed !
    Cheers
    Sean

  37. Dave M says:

Great work Paul’s!! Was fun to watch, would have liked 5 minutes more

  38. Steven Roberts says:

Haven’t been through the box is detail yet, but one thing I did note:-

On the reverse of “…Otis Blue” it states “Tracks 6 and 7 Paul Young with Masayuki”

But there’s only 4 tracks on the CD?

    Other than that, looks great!

  39. Paul Sinclair says:

If you can’t find a signed print for a box you ordered via Amazon, please refer to this image, which may or may not help. https://twitter.com/sdedition/status/1088935543210168323

    • RichT says:

I ordered via Amazon and signed print was included exactly as per image provided by Paul.

      • Chris Squires says:

Ditto, I ordered one through amazon and one through SDE, my amazon one came today exactly as Paul’s picture. Oversize amazon box, inner smaller box with CD case and about 8 small CD sized cardboard squares as padding. Laying against the back wall of the inner box was a whopping brown cardboard mailer with the signed print.

    • Ivan Mani says:

My Amazon order arrived in a bubble wrap bag and not a box as shown. Definitely no print included.

  40. Cat Cheyne says:

I received my pre-ordered boxset via Amazon today but was disappointed that it didn’t include a signed photo so returned the boxset. I should’ve ordered it via SDE! I saw Paul perform & he was amazing; he sounded & looked absolutely fantastic! And I agree he has done so well especially given the difficult year it must have been for him. Great interview too

    • Ivan says:

Box set arrived today. It looks great. Looking forward to listening to the CDs.

Shame there is no print. I was under the impression that even the Amazon orders would have one.

      • Paul Sinclair says:

They should all have the print. My advice to everyone is don’t panic and immediately return your sets to Amazon. I’m sure Demon will get this sorted… I have made them aware. SDE ordered boxes appear to be okay, thank goodness…

        • Eric says:

Thanks for the update, Paul. My set wasn’t posted in the same packaging as a lot of people’s – just the standard brown card thicker, branded envelope – and there was no sign of the print. The packaging wasn’t even a suitable shape or size for the boxset, causing the edges to be spoiled. I’ve ordered another copy from them, but if it’s still missing the print then any advice or instructions you post up here on SDE will be most useful!

          EG.

  41. Rosie says:

    Hi Paul
Amazon UK are not shipping the boxset with the signed print mine turned up this morning without print spoke to Amazon Who told me to return it and a replacement would be sent but without print. I give up I shall be ordering from SDE shop in future. Boxset Looks great by the way Paul Nice One

  42. James Barker says:

Fabulous Paul! You held your own quite well Mr Super Fan!! Nice to see you know more than the other Paul. Great little un-boxing video, you’ll have to get every artist round to unbox them in the future!! I managed to order a copy of the set the other day as it was back in stock at Amazon. I’m sure your ploy to boost sales by setting them to make it out of stock for day or two worked wonders!! ;) . Looking forward to getting this set from a very casual Paul Young fan, I only own your last CD compilation I must confess!, but this one looks such a great set with so much effort put in to it you deserve a great deal of credit. I’ll no doubt start on the albums next, must be the only 80s fan in the world that doesn’t own No Parlez! I even missed the Newspaper giveaway!

  43. dazzler says:

I just can’t understand why such a thought through project omits the obscure album version of Love Of The Common People (it was also missing on the 25th anniversary release of No Parlez and on th Tomb Of Memories box) and the 7″ edit of Love Will Tear Us Apart. Especially when almost every existing version of the other singles is included. For me it would have been a reason to buy this expensive box (which I normally don’t).

  44. Steve Woodward says:

It’s easy to miss the envelope with the signed print, if your main objective is to remove the box!
The brown envelope with the print is much bigger than the actual box, presumably why the box used is so big in the first place (mine came from Amazon via Royal Mail today).

It’s a great looking product, shows what can be achieved when the right people are working on it!

    • Keith Paul Young says:

No definitely not missed it . It simply doesn’t exist

      • Keith Paul Young says:

        Update: Demon Records

Sent an email a little an hour or so ago and demon got straight back to me and will sort the issue by mailing a copy of the signed poster out to me.
Super fast response from these guys, I was expecting to wait ages

Thank you Paul for pointing me in the right direction

  45. Keith Paul Young says:

No print in mine, checked it over a dozen times. Not a collectible without the print , will send mine back

    • Paul Sinclair says:

Presume you ordered from Amazon? I’m sure Demon can sort this out.

      • Keith Paul Young says:

Yes came from amazon. I have read all the comments about finding the print but sadly for me it doesn’t exist, I will see if demon can do anything before I return it. I suppose that one of the good things with amazon you have a long return window.
At least it didn’t turn up damaged for a change

        • colm47 says:

          Hi Keith
My box set arrived this morning from Amazon to Dublin.
Packing was a bit loose at one end and envelope with signed photo could have slipped out in transit.
Thankfully mine didn’t but not the best packing I’ve ever had from them.

          • Paul Sinclair says:

We taped up the ones we sent out at the ends, for that very reason! Also if people are interested, the packaging isn’t Amazon’s but how they came from the distributors.

  46. Dean says:

My box set arrived today from Amazon. It truly is a thing of beauty and brings back floods of memories of happy times from this old PY fan. Thanks Paul and Paul!!!

  47. RPM says:

Great video and I can’t wait to received the box set

    Thanks Paul

  48. Tony O says:

lovely Video, nice to see the old fella talking about the old days, you seemed a little bit awe struck by having him in the room but I suppose that happens a lot in your game, did you play “every time you go away” when he walked out the door?

    • Paul Sinclair says:

I’ve met PY a few times before. I didn’t think I was awe struck (honest, guv) but it seems to have come across like that! :) Oh well, hopefully it’s been a fun watch. Similar stuff coming soon!

      • Rickjapan says:

To me you didn’t look so much awestruck as wanting to give Paul Y as much time to talk as possible since you had him there!

Looking forward to getting my set soon! Also the Alphaville Live at Whisky a Go Go box set, it’s Christmas in February for me!

        • Paul Sinclair says:

It was going to be Paul Young on his own, but it’s not that easy for people to just start talking about stuff to camera, and it can be more natural to have a bit of a conversation. But as you say, the idea was to throw in some prompts and talking points rather than an “interview” as such. I agree it would have been nice if it had been a bit longer. Next time!!

      • Mark C says:

        Paul

Just thought I’d say thank you for your work on a fantastic box set. I understand that collectors can be a real pain with perhaps that missing track or video (this could make me public enemy No1) and many seem to find a problem with most things, signed print taken into account. You do great work there would be a massive gap without you. Mark

  49. Gordon says:

This is a fantastic product – thanks to Paul, Paul and all involved! I never thought I’d see the day when I’d have such beautiful box sets for the likes of Paul Young and Bananarama side by side on my top shelf! And the video’s! I’ve not seen most of these for years but it’s properly taking me back! Love it!

No signed print sadly (I checked for an envelope but alas I am without…)

And to echo what several others have already said above, I would sell my granny to get my hands on something like this for Dead Or Alive! The artwork for their singles alone would be worth the price and there are rarities out there that the Sophisticated Boom Box overlooked.

    • Paul Sinclair says:

I do keep saying this but the ‘envelope’ is thick card which is the same colour as the outer box and is right at the back of the inside of the outer packaging. It’s not something loose, floating around. I know you say you’ve checked, but do bear this in mind!

  50. Guillaume Labelle says:

Great video, thanks for sharing Paul!!! I got to see him in Canada in the 80’s and then last September in Orlando with Midge Ure. Was a great show, he has aged very well and was very comfortable on stage. He is a legend just like you Mr Sinclair.

    I love your website!

  51. fenwick says:

Just wanted to say congrats Paul. This could come across as saccharine or disingenuous, but it most heartfelt.

I’m happy for you and proud to be a member of this little growing community we have going here.

  52. Daniel ( from Berlin ) says:

hi paul, what i really love in this video is watching YOU. please don’t understand me wrong: my eyes were the full 5 minutes only on you. i liked you. but now i like you even more. you are so shy and nervous on the couch. like a young teenager who can meet his star. but YOU are the star behind this lovely box set ! you should put your arm on paul young’s shoulder and say: “you can thank ME paul. i keep your music alive and build you a monument with this box set”. after seeing this video the 2nd time i think paul young doesn’t really know much about this set. it seems to me like he sit there on a short commercial and he said “oh wonderful” and that it is for him… that’s why i think it’s very necessary that someone like YOU work on those box sets. you know what you do. you are interested in putting rarities together that we will have. my “love letter” ends with: thank you very much for you work paul !!

  53. Andy Puddefoot says:

Received my box very impressed sadly no signed print in my box even though sticker states there should be

    • Paul Sinclair says:

Print isn’t in the box, it’s in an envelope in the packaging.

      • andy puddefoot says:

thanks paul ,having a dim moment have got it now and left message for other on amazon for others as other people seen to have made same silly error

      • David Else says:

Glad I’ve just read this, I ripped the packaging up and put it in the recycling yesterday also thinking that the print was in the box (I haven’t opened it yet) just been out to the bin with my torch and found the envelope intack in the packaging!!!

  54. Kevin Galliford says:

I saw him live in September 2015 where he did a lot of the “No parlez” album & he was absolutely brilliant, great voice, bossed the stage, got the crowd going, everything a great singer should do!!

  55. Kauwgompie says:

Great video Paul! Thank you, always a pleasure to get some of the artist insights. Did Edsel print more boxsets? It’s back available again on Amazon UK and Amazon USA.

    • Chris Squires says:

My guess would be a few last minute cancellations. It always happens with a good limited edition set on Amazon. It disappears quickly, then over the course of several weeks up to release it comes in and out of stock as people who pre-ordered decide they a) don’t need it, b) can’t afford it, c) the wife has found out.
I cancel more than I used to, I tend to order when I first see it and take a view in the last few days before dispatch. Some items, like league of gentlemen have a ridiculous price drop in the run up to release, so it’s worth getting in early even if you eventually cancel.
Although, close scrutiny shows decent price drops have been rarer recently. The HMV effect?
I used to think that a quick reprint would never happen but with Bobbie Gentry and The Police in a week nothing surprises me any more.

  56. eric says:

So nice to see 2 Pauls.. even a shy one for what i felt watching this video!! meeting a talent makes this way i guess.
Also, we could remember that cbs played games between eu/us/uk market with issues and singles choices, not easy for M.Paul Young to remember the what what behind.

Appreciate the Otis blue choice, perfect single and a n1 airplay back the time here in France, BTW also one of my favourite’s.
    Bravo !

  57. juerie says:

And the first sets are already an ebay for the double price. Its so ridiculous.

  58. Nubben says:

Congrats Paul on steering the ship into harbour (sort of speak)! Can’t wait to open my copy this evening!

By off chance, do you know if Demon would be willing to give purchasers access to the digital artwork for these singles? Who would be best to contact you think?

  59. Wayne C says:

Paul Young was the first performer that I saw in a normal sized venue at the Leeds University on the original “No Parlez” tour – happy memories indeed for me as a young man. Even though I wouldn’t purchase this release as a vinyl fan mostly,he was an still is one of my all time favourite male vocalists. Used to have a blue and yellow Paul Young T Shirt from that tour (like all my old ones it disappeared many years ago).

Great Unboxing video from the two Paul’s.

  60. Peter says:

Nice one Paul S!! Can’t wait to get it myself, shedulled for delivery next week!

  61. Rodolfo Martin says:

Paul, so proud of you. Even Paul Young is not in my ball park, I enjoyed the interview. Having the man unboxing his own set for the first time at SDE is a big deal. Wow! Congratulations for having become a reference in the industry. I hope that artist and recording companies pay more and more attention to what you and fans write in these blogs. I don’t know how easy or difficult has been for artist having the input of their fans (buyers) but SDE is the place to go if fan feedback war sought by artist. I wish you can continue fulfilling anything you plan for SDE. Opening SDE every morning is pure fun. You have created a large community of serious music lovers and collectors. Congratulations

  62. Martyn Alner says:

Now if you could only get Messrs Cox and Drummie together for a similar Go West Box then that’d be Fab!

    • Steven Roberts says:

Hi Martyn – I don’t Go West had enough remixes to really make a singles box worthwhile.

On the other hand, a super deluxe edition of their first album – remixes !, edits !!, live !!!, 5.1 !!!! – could be really something rather special.

I could even suggest them a track listing :)

      • Chris Squires says:

A conglomeration with Bangs and Crashes plus! Would be a great set for Go West and if they could produce something like last years Popped in Souled out that would be terrific.

        • Steven Roberts says:

Yes, that’s exactly what I’ve got for my GoWest SDE on my iPod – all the relevant Bangs and Crashes tracks plus as many of the other B-sides/remixes/promos that I could source elsewhere…

Thinks it runs to about 30 tracks all in…could probably be about 50 if you added in recordings from the BBC Live in Concert series (which Edsel could do without too much trouble, I imagine, being owned by the BBC). Go West were recorded by the BBC at least twice around this time (a couple of the BBC live recordings actually made it on to B&C).

  63. David says:

I agree with the comment above. A Dead Or Alive singles set would be excellent. To include the pre-CBS stuff would be better…!

Currently Awaiting my Paul Young set from amazon…

  64. John says:

    Thanks to both Pauls
The video inspired me to press “buy” on Amazon this morning after sitting on the fence since it was first listed. Saw PY on the anniversary tour in the Autumn, the man is still in fine form.

  65. poptones says:

Just received an email from Amazon UK, my order has been dispatched…After watching Paul’s video, I can’t wait!

I’m also surprised Paul Young has so little recollection of his career, I thought watching the sleeves he would have immediate recollection of the era, the charts success of the single, top of the pops, etc. Anyway, very nice of him to unbox his own box set. I just wish it was a bit longer and he took each single one by one and told us the story behind that single, anecdotes, interesting facts, etc. I guess he didn’t have the time for that. Paul, if you could conduct an interview with Paul Young and let him tell the story behind each single and print that as a booklet (like Roxy Music), I would definitely be interested by that. I guess many buyers of this box set would be interested.

    • Klaus says:

      @poptones:

Come on, give the man a break.

Do you remember everything that happened at your working place some 35 years ago? ;-)

  66. johnnyv says:

This box could have half the less CDs.

  67. SeanL says:

Nice little video Paul, Pity it wasn’t longer. Looking forward to receiving my boxset later today

  68. Jon Barlow says:

What I really like about this box set is that it’s put together with so much thought for the listener, it never becomes too repetitive and remains interesting throughout by not putting the same song back to back on each disc. Great set Paul and Paul…..Many thanks

  69. RJS says:

    Like the Trunk Woolworths T-Shirt!

  70. Chris Squires says:

Good to see Paul looking so well after what must have been a difficult year.
    Several things.
    a) This box set shows that you can have two or three special items based around a great artists career that don’t overlap and each bring something specific to the party. This, alongside Tomb of Memories, gives a fan and an interested listener an almost perfect overview of that career.
    b) It’s funny how nearly all artists have so little recollection about the chronology of their career. I guess they were too busy having a career, being stars and being “on the go”. In general they don’t know when something was released and don’t know what was released or where, at least not to the level of the fans. This shows how vital it is, if the industry is going to even attempt to give us something we want (to pay for) and create a best seller, that they get someone who is *into* that specific artist. It’s great having an artist involved but leave it to the compilers and curators to put the archive together.

Can’t wait for my box to turn up….

  71. John Orr says:

What a great wee clip, love the adoring looks Paul (Sinclair). ;)

  72. Michael says:

That was good. Congrats on producing the boxset. I don’t know whether you are a fan but you may wanna consider doing a Dead Or Alive one or even a compilation. Definitely a market for them. There are mixes not available on the box set. favourites of Paul Young’s are Some People & Know I Know What Made Otis Blue. What are yours Paul? Thanks

    • Peter Nicholas says:

I agree with Michael, a Dead or Alive singles boxset would be great if you were able to do one of those Paul.

  73. cdmaniac says:

Thanks so much to both Pauls for a great set

  74. Steve Robertson says:

    Glorious set Paul, thanks :)

  75. Nigel Hall says:

For anyone who hasn’t bought it yet, Amazon UK now seems to have a few more copies. Last week it was sold out so you’ll probably need to be quick!

  76. -SG- says:

Now if you could curate the Pet Shop Boys singles box.
