  1. James James says:

I bought a copy of the 3LP set from a local shop.
A nicely pressed copy, not perfectly flat but no extraneous noises.
Generally good sound quality, smoother but a little less dynamic and less presence than my original LP.
    Overall a good remaster.

  2. Nick says:

So my 9LP Super Deluxe Box set arrived this morning US to UK…… Damaged

Terribly Packed by Warners….. Just thrown in a massive flat box to rattle around with absolutely NO protection – needless to say it is damaged with corner dinks, scrape across the front Logo – shrink wrap totally torn off all around – so won’t be keeping it as Mint / sealed!
Finger prints and marks on the rear of the Cover…. oh the only good thing about it….. My Black Card inner sleeves are Poly lined!!!!!
Shame on you Warners – £250.00 Box set Packaged with absolutely NO CARE!

  3. Rob Sweater says:

    General comment:

I noticed that the price comparison tool also picks up the prices from 3rd party-sellers, who use the Amazon-platform. In many cases, this is misleading, because most of the time the 3rd-party-sellers ship from the US, so you have to add shipping and import costs.

I think in the past, you only referred to the Amazon-prices. Maybe you could change that back, so the tool can really compare prices for the customers.

    • Paul Sinclair says:

Nope… widgets have always shown the cheapest price available. It doesn’t make sense to worry about shipping because you aren’t comparing like with like. Everyone’s point A to point B is different, some people are members of Amazon Prime, some aren’t. The cleanest and simplest way to do it is to just compare the price of the product from various retailers.

  4. Tom m hans says:

I just played the 4CD box set back to front yesterday and I am kind of underwhelmed. Even the home recordings sound polished and clean, almost sterile. Need to give this another try whole I am not concentrating on working from home. I cancelled the 5CD version from TP store after news broke abt NY Archives 2. Lots of money saved on both ends to pay for my Thin Lizzy box that still needs to be shipped from UK to the colonies.
I pretty much breathed the record when it came out first so the 4CD leaves me a bit deflated after all my personal expectations.

  5. MCK says:

Wonderful video (again). Pre-ordered the 4CD version through your site and I love it. Thanks to you I’m up to date with the latest releases. Thanks .

  6. Marton says:

Warner does have an EU store but they don’t carry the 5CD and 9LP versions. I won’t order these from the States because I have to pay shipping + tax + customs.

    • Nick says:

Warners are not really on the ball are they ! – why else would they fail to sell highly sought after New releases on the EU store!

  7. Kevin says:

Thanks for the video Paul. Much appreciated.

I suppose I’m the only one that thinks £157.17 is an obscene amount of money to charge loyal fans for this set? I’ll put my flak jacket and hard hat on!

I bought the Double CD. Very impressed with that.

    • Nick says:

How about the truly obscene 9LP version limited to 475 copies that sold out on his webstore after a few days – a whopping $500 only extras you get are 2 LPs a bag…. couple of badges, You don’t know how it feels / girl on LSD 7″ single that you can buy anyway and a necklace – for an extra $250….
Tom Petty would be turning in his grave if he could see the price gouging from his family / warners as he fought all his life against this!

  8. Ryk says:

As soon as I saw that the vinyl set mirrored the CD set in that the discs slide in from the top and there is not outer slipcase, I immediately envisaged it as a dust trap. My vinyl collection is along a wall on the floor, with each individual album in a plastic protective “zip-lock” bag. Any box sets are completely enclosed. I’m glad I’m not interested in this one, as the design would irk me.

  9. Stefan says:

    Hi Paul,
Thank you for another interesting video. Do you know if there’s a track by track booklet with the 2 CD version as well please?

    • Paul Sinclair says:

Don’t know, sorry. Someone here can probably help.

      • Jurgen says:

I bought the 2CD edition and there’s no track by track information in the booklet. Also no picuters. I didn’t open it (because I bought so many this month) until I saw the unboxing video. I also hoped for it but …

  10. Mike R says:

Most disappointed that ‘Girl on LSD’ studio version, which was the b-side of ‘You Don’t Know How It Feels’ is only available on the $150 super duper deluxe from the Petty website.

    • noyoucmon says:

I agree, Mike. That song is part of the already-released album cosmology, and isn’t merely an archival outtake. It deserves to be on the 4-disc set for sure.

  11. Peter Anderson says:

Thanks Paul – answered my question about the booklets perfectly. I highly recommend the live disc. Although the individual tracks are from many different performances over a number of years they are all perfectly balanced and cross-faded so they feel like an individual show. That was my biggest disappointment with the recent Rush Permanent Waves box where the much-vaunted live ‘show’, again from different venues but all from the same tour – featured fades between most of the tracks completely destroying the feeling of listening to a complete performance. Thanks for another great unboxing video. About to pull the trigger on the 7-LP version.

    • Joh Berry says:

Having bought the cd on release in 1994 and loved it ever since, I got the 3 lp edition. Wow, peak Petty! The pressing is perfect and the audio and artwork are exemplary, appropriate to the A grade writing and performances. The unreleased material is also more than worthy of inclusion and adds, rather than then detracts, to/ from an already outstanding album for once. Reissue of the year, surely.
